Lap on 3/19 and humble

Hello, all. I, too, have been a lurker on this website for weeks, and am finally joining! I had lapband surgery on Monday the 19th and have to say I've been humbled by the experience. I thought it would be a piece of cake, and it sort of was, but it was harder than I thought it would be. My doctor is great, and the nurses were very supportive. I spent a day in the hospital and came home Tuesday. I was trying to do the Advil/Tylenol route, but my stomach hurts! So I'm back on the hard stuff. I have to admit that I've been tempted to eat real food, and when I took one bite of pizza Wednesday night, I felt horrible. I couldn't even swallow it. Hooray! Normally I could have put down an entire pizza by myself. I know I will have a lot of temptations with 3 small children and a husband to feed, but I just don't feel like eating anything right now. Crystal Lite has been a lifesaver. I've found that my throat still hurts from the intubation and that it is still hard (and painful) to cough. Has anyone else experienced this? I am so releived to have had the surgery. This message board is awesome and I am eager to be a good member. I know I'll be reading it a lot and leaning on it for support these first few weeks while I adjust to having the band in place. It was weird to see the Xray of my esophagus after the procedure with the lap band in place. Best of luck for everyone awaiting the surgery! Sarah.

Thanks for posting Sarah!!!! Welcome to the March 07 board!!!! Thank you for you input and how the surgery is going for you!!! I have read other journals about the tube and have heard that being painful for other people who have just had surgery in general. I think it is normal when you have a tube shoved down your throat! Hope you are feeling better soon! With a smile, Rita

Sarah, Hello, my surgery is not scheduled till May 7th . I am very anxious and have been reading this website a lot. Just a quick little tip. It seems everyone finds comfort in sugar-free popsicles. Great for your throat and a little treat. I am having a nagging hernia repaired so I am sure my surgery is going to be a challenge. I am preparing for the worst and hope to be surprised. Since I am paying for this out of pocket I have already said I would not spend the night in the hospital. Well, good luck. Read lot of information from this site it has been very interessting. Everyone is so nice and very helpful. I have made a lot of friends from this site. Good luck Siena
