Hello Danielle,
I am 6 days out but have discovered some tasty acceptables. I have not started pureed meats, eggs, etc. but I have pureed cream of potato soup with skim milk and love it. Last night I had to have protein before the end of the day and didnt think I could hold another 8 ounces of liquid. I opened a SF chocolate jello pudding, dumped it into a small cup, and added straight to the pudding a scoop of Designer whey chocolate Protein mix......WONDERFUL!! Try that brand. It isnt really that expensive and comes in a variety of flavors including vanilla praline. I plan to buy more. Inside the lid of the can was a recipe for a chocolate peanut butter protein drink with skim milk........Ya just cant beat that.
Good Luck to you,
Pam
Danielle,
KFC mashed potatoes and gravy are good. So is pintos and cheese from taco bell. I am two weeks post op and I am able to eat tuna fish, just chew it well, I didn't use the blender. I also love cod fish and it goes down really well. scrambled eggs are good, just chew well. the inside of baked potatoes with a little bit of light sour cream works too. I am also eating cottage cheese without pureeing it. good luck
Lisa
Designer Whey ($8 from Trader Joe's, or order on line) is the only protein I have been able to find that doesn't have that vomit smell and taste that all of the other wehy protein seems to have. They are also selling protein "shots" on some of the websites. 3 swallows and you have 25 grams of protein down. As for the expense.....run a total of all of the money you spent on drive through and junk food last month. I betcha a month of protein won't cost what we spent in a week as pre-ops!!!
Hi Danielle,
Congratulations on your 3 week mark. Good pureed foods or foods for this stage are anything you can get to the consistancy of cottage cheese or applesauce.
Cottage Cheese
egg salad
scrambled eggs
chicken salad- I use the canned chic, ff mayo, and dill pickels (YUMMY)(I do puree this)
you can also make the above with turkey or tuna
Wendy's chili (or make your own chili)- I was surprised that this worked
re-fried beans
I would wait on the peanut butter for a few more weeks (it tends to gum up the pouch)
You will have to experiment on some of the meats - I can handle red meat, fish and broiled shrimp, but none of the white meats unless it is not reconizable.(SP)Pureed to death.
There is a lot that you can do in this phase, but remember to eat slow and rest in between bites. I can usually tell with in the 1st 2 bites if it is going to work.
Good luck!!
HI!
I have a question concerning the potatoes. I know potatoes will go down well since they are so smooth; but why would we be able to eat such a starchy carb? Seems we should be avoiding potatoes and things like that for quite a while. Maybe I am misled but I would just be way too scared to eat carbs like that. I would welcome any insight on the matter. My surgery is in a week and I wanna know everything..
Peace,
my doc allows the mashed potatoes at this point because we are aiming for 500 cal a day (won't get that on the current stage). I have some tuna with mustard for one meal, mashed potatoes with Unflavored Unjury protein, pintos n cheese with FIRE sauce, and for my evening meal usually too full, but I try to have some yogurt or some Baba Ganouj with saltines.
For protein shakes I use EAS Advant Edge Carb Control Chocolate - 24 drinks in a case, sold at SAMS club, $28/case. One drink a day is 15g protein, 100 cal.
