Iron Supplements???
I would check again on that dose, 325mg is what we give in aspirin dose (or 81 mg)... Iron tablets are around 30 mg each... I don't think he meant to take 10 tabs...
A dose that high might require IV infusion... The side effects of a dose that high would be staggering... many people have severe nausea from just a 60 mg dose... and constipation that can lead to intestinal blockage from a daily dosing of 60 mgs...
I really would check to make sure he meant 325 and not 32.5? (or 30ish)... if he is certain that is what he meant, then be sure to use a fiber supplement and ask the nutritionist where to buy the product.
Thank you. It seems high to me too! I am going to check with the nut at my all day preop class on Tuesday. If I don't get a good answer from her, I'll check with my surgeon later Tuesday afternoon. Thanks for taking the time to respond and give such good advice. I really appreciate it!
Take Care,
Robin
Hi Robin
I have to agree with Kat. I've been instructed to take an Iron supplment in the dose of 36mg/day (for menstruating women, men and non-menstruating women 18mg/day). Stores like Walgreens, CVS, GNC, Target, Sprouts, Hi-Health, and Vitamin World should all carry what you need.
I have been told that liquid Iron tastes incredibly disgusting, so you may wind up splitting or crushing a pill. The ones I bought at GNC were small enough for me to split in half and swallow.
Good luck!

Hi Robin,
I too was told a very high amount, I think 365. I called the surgeons office and they say it needs to be high due to the fact they take away the ability to absorb. They said I would have to ask for it at the pharmacy dept.
I still feel that is too much and am going to contact the Nut about this.
Good luck and let me know what you find out, and I will, as well.
Thanks,
Wanda
