Please, anyone I need words of encouragement or suggestions on how you got through the first couple weeks, I am having a hard time with these liquids! I am on day 4 now. It's tough and doesn't seem to get any easier. Thank you!

Do you mean trouble getting the liquids down or trouble only having liquids? Or both? I am post op day 2 and am struggling with my water. How can you get enough down? I don't miss food yet and I don't feel hungry per se, but I just don't feel good drinking as much water as I'm supposed to.

I am having problems sticking to just the liquids, it's hard on me. I can get enough down, how much are we supposed to be drinking? HOw much at a time can you drink? I am able to drink about 4 ounces in one gulp without any problem.

I haven't tried drinking more than 1oz at a time. I'm pouring water into a 2 oz glass jigger to keep track. They told me at this point that I should be drinking 2 litres a day of water and not to take more than 2 oz fluid in 15 min. That's hard! I think I have it a bit easier than you because I don't have kids to feed while I'm trying to stick to liquids. That must be really rough! Good luck to you, and keep in touch. Gwen

My advice isn't going to help much because of my RNY but I'll give it.... I was to do Sugar Free (SF) Clear liquids for 1 week, then full liquids for 1 week, then start puree when I do my 2 week checkup. I can drink about 2 oz every 30 minutes (per hospital instructions). NOW, that being said... I do about 2 oz an hour (I forget to drink every 30 mins) and I got fed up with clear liquids at day 5, so I started full liquids then (soups, etc), and fed up with full liquids at day 9, so I started Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt (made with splenda and fat free)... I've tolerated that well, and last night I got GUTSY and had 3 bites of steamed fish, with no problems. BUT like I said, I'm an RNY patient so I'm a bit different. I agree with the others, call the MD's office and insist on a written outline from the dietician he works with.

Wow, that is unfortunate that they did not give you good post-op instructions. Here is what I have from my program: Week 1 - Sugar Free Clear Liquids Sip 1-2 ounces of fluids every 15 minutes Accepted Fluids: Water, Sugar Free Jello, Sugar Free Popcicles, Sugar free flavored water (Propel, Fruit2O, etc), Decaf tea or coffee with no added sugar or cream, Low Sodium Broth, Crystal Light, Sugar free Tang, Sugar Free Kool Aid, Diet Decaf Snapple In addition we are instructed to take 2 chewable multivitamins per day and 1 500mcg B12 vitamin Minimal amounts of calories and protein You should get in touch with the dietician or nutritionist for your program and get detailed instructions for future weeks. My progra m does full liquids for week 2, soft and pureed foods for weeks 3-6 and then solid after week 6. You need to focus on getting protein first with every meal once you start doing full liquids and onward, but get instructions for that form your program. Good luck! Sherry

HI jsut left you response about what they told me to do with my program, but then I see that you are a bander. So, it is a little different after the first week for lap band, so make sure you get in touch with your program to get the right post-op instructions for the lap band, but the week 1 liquids should be the same. I had lap band on 3/14. I made corned beef cabbage carrots and potatoes for my family. As today is St Pattys day. I took a small amount of each and about 6 tablespoons of the liquid that it cooked in and pureed it. I had to chop the meat up finely first. It was like a thin baby food consistency. It tasted divine. I only ate about 1/8 cup. Other than that I drink a lot of water a little at a time and in little sips. Also, I drink shakes, and boulloin and tea. So far so good. The only problem I find is TV commercials. I didnt realize until after surgery that 85% of commercials are about FOOD.
