I had RNY on 2/26. Since my pre-op diet that started 2/12, I have lost 27lbs. I wanted to post to let people know that there are alot of people who have this surgery and have no physical problems. It has been 2 wks since my surgery and I have not gotten sick on anything that I have eaten. (no stomach or bowel problems) (I have been told that I have a low tolerance for pain - - so I was concerned that having this surgery would be difficult for me.) I get my liquids in - and water tastes fine to me. I have started walking short distances and sleep about 9hrs at night -- still in "recovery". (Prior to surgery, I had been sleeping 7 hrs each night.) I am eating only protein for the first 4wks post-op - - mostly pureed, but I can eat fish without pureeing it. I have come up with a number of low-carb/low-fat sauces for my pureed meats. I miss eating veggies, but I am happy that I ony have 2 more weeks til I can eat them again.
I wanted to post for the benefit of those of you who have not yet had the surgery to let you know that many people have an easy time after the surgery. The best advice I can give to you is to be at peace with your decision and relax. I made an effort to show my family that I was at ease with my decision and that put them more at ease.
I am thankful to God that I am on the losing side and not struggling.
Good luck to all of you who are having your surgery this month!

Colleen,
Thanks for the insight... I'm still on liquids and I think I'm going nuts... I decided to push forward and I guess I went too fast. Now I'm nauseated and just "yech" feeling. I'm a week out, and 3rd week of liquids so far... so I'm quite fed up with it... and really getting doggone depressed about wanting something I can't have. Thanks for the encouragement, my recovery has been completely amazing and with ZERO complications.... but my impatience and head hunger got too far ahead of my consciousness tonight.

Thank you for the post and inspiration. I have my surgery also on the 20th and am very nervous. I had been undecided about gastric bypass or lap band, but I think I am just going to do the bypass and give it up to God after that. I am praying for an easy surgery and recovery also. Thanks again!!!!
