PRE OP DIET/GOALS
AHHHHHH!!! How is everyone doing???? I have been MIA for a few days. I had to take my son to Nashville TN to meet his dad for spring break. My eating habits were TERRIBLE!
I started my preop today. I am trying to do the liquid thing...but that is sooo hard!! I have to say that I have done pretty well today in the regular "diet" sense. I had half a cup of cottage cheeze (1%) and 1 piece of whole wheat dry toast. I have drank about 24 oz of water and 1/2 a protein shake. GROSS..it is like slim fast on a DIET!!! I just finished eating 2 slices of 2% cheese and half a cup of chicken broth. So like I said..liquid diet NO...regular diet..YES... Maybe tomorrow will be better with the liquid thing. I actually don't feel super hungry (I think it is because my stomach is still digesting the enormous amount of food I fed it this weekend)
I made my goals for the next year. Here they are:
HEALTH GOAL: NO CPAP MACHINE, MORE ENERGY, KILL the possibility of developing DIABETES
FAMILY GOAL: play and play and play with Malachi until I'm exhausted from the HOURS we spent at the beach, park, backyard INSTEAD of the thirty minutes of torture because I am so fat I can't stand to stand up to throw/catch the ball with him.
WEIGHT LOSS GOAL: 150 lbs
EXERCISE GOAL: Participate in a TRIATHOLON
VANITY GOALS: Size 8 and to wear a bikini on my honey moon
There are a lot of other things mixed in with all of that but these are the main goals. I am crying as I reread them. So much of my life that past few years has been taken away from because because of my choices to allow food to take over my desires and goals in life. BUT NO MORE!!!!
Today I officially have TEN more days until my freedom!!! I will no longer be under the bondage of FOOD!!!
Hope everyone has a BLESSED day today!!
With a smile,
Rita
Hi Rita, you sound like me but I am on the Optifast for the two weeks pre op diet...not only does it make me want to puke and give me unbelieveable heartburn but it was so expensive it would kill me to pour it down the drain...Thank God I only bought one weeks worth! I am subin' cottage cheese at supper time (doc says that is ok) and SF Carnation Instant breaksfast (with a scoop of protein) the other times. I had to have 7 meals of this liquid crap a day. I have to drink at least 3 of these YUCKY shakes a day until March 19th then it will be clear liquid and magnesium citrate...YUM, YUM! Then surgery March 20th.
My surgeon put my weight loss goal at 155 but would like to go down to at least 135. I am 5' 6" and don't think this would be a problem for me. This would put me at a size 6. HEH....I CAN LIVE WITH THAT! Deb
Isn't that cool! Sarcasm duly noted and appreciated I started out at 260 and now am 235. Hoping to be at 230 surgery time. Probably will be with this crap I'm drinking...That would give me a 100 lb margin. .. This stuff is loaded with carbs so I am taking my sugar readings several x's a day. But you can't drink it after surgery (not that I would want to)
They want to give me OptiSource then. Gee...I can't wait for that one either. I will take my SF JellO, SF Popsicles and broth...thank you very much. All 2 oz. at a time (well a 30 min. time)
I have found a new way to drink this Optifast....hold my nose and down it. It works so much better! Cheers, Debby
I am nearing the end of the pre-op diet and I have lost 10 lbs... woo hoo! It is hard just doing liquids and cottage cheese... my dr. allows veggies (with nothing on them) or fruit... that helps you feel a little full and lets you ~CRUNCH~ on something. I like the Atkins Advantage shakes, they are a little less filmy tasting - the vanilla is the best.
This pre-op diet has really allowed me to focus on making the right choices and only having a bite of something yummy instead of 3 servings...
Good luck with your diet - remember - it is the end goal that keeps you going!
Amie
you are all doing so much better then me....ugh.....this last weekend was my daughters 4th birthday party and you know what that ment CAKE !!!!! ...ugh... its now gone.. ugh... tue I am starting a new.... need to be true to myself you see my surgeron does not have a pre op diet to follow just 24hrs of clear liquids.. but I know that it is better to be on the loseing side so I want to something like I will after with liquids protein and one meal a day I go back to work in am and it is easyer when Im working... Lets keep each other on track we all want the samething ....to be healthy, active and comfortable in our own skin !!!!! heres to skin

Rita,
Tonight is my last day of the pre-op diet, and I have to admit I'm glad it's almost over (my surgery is tomorrow morning). I spoke with someone else who had surgery, and they told me the pre-op diet was worse than the post-op diet. My pre-op diet ordered by my doctor is protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, and then one 500 calorie meal. I have to admit that I was glad for the 500 calorie meal. On a positive note, I have lost some "momentum" weight during this pre-surgery diet.
