4 days to go

Ok I have 4 days to go and I keep thinking there is something special I should eat before Monday (my surgery date) Then I thinkit's a bad idea, because I may as well make my break of all food habits for good. I would love to have a nice breakfast before the surgery with all my favorites, eggs, bacon, grits, fruit and toast... or some seafood (not as breakfast LOL)... Did anyone else have a last supper/breakfast?

Hi Sharmie, I know how you feel. I have actually been on a pre-op diet for the last 3 weeks (my surgery is the 15th). I was not under any Dr's orders to do so, so I have not denied myself of everything. But I have lost about 15lbs even with the extras. I have a dinner planned for Saturday night (one last big steak and potatoes dinner). I will probably do something chocolate for the dessert. Starting today, my intent is to not divert from the diet, except for that meal, until my sugery. Unless your Dr has put you on a strict diet, or told you NOT to eat a particular food, you may want to give yourself one last taste of something you might not be able to eat. Just my thoughts. Dave

I'm scheduled on Tuesday. My doctor requires a 2 week pre-operative diet which a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, and one 500 calorie meal for dinner. I've lost somewhere between 10-15 pounds on this diet, but have also been kind of miserable, especially at night. I can relate to your desire to splurge on one last meal. I can't help but think how strange it is that different doctors seem to have such different pre-surgery requirements for the same surgeries. The other thing I wonder is how close people really go by these pre-operative diets when they find out that so many other offices don't require them. My paperwork indicated that any patient who gains 20 pounds or more before their surgery will not have the surgery performed. I'm hoping the prediet will make it easier to adjust to post-surgery life, but that doesn't make it any easier! --Dave

My doctor wanted me on a full liquid diet for one week pre op. So since Monday, I've had basically liquids. However, last week end, I did feast. I went out to eat with my Mom, and then on Sunday, my best friend's husband cooked me dinner. Monday will be here before we know it. I'm ready for battle!!!!!! Barbara

hi Sharmie. My surgery is on Monday too - can you believe how CLOSE we are?!?!?!?! For myself, I have a favorite cookie that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I call them 7 Layer Cookies, some people call them Magic Bars. Well, this cookie by any other name is still TOTALLY SWEET! I made two batches of them last night and brought MOST of them into work. I have some here at home yet, but come Saturday night, if they aren't gone I am throwing them out. I don't have to do any special diet - just nothing after midnight Sunday. I do, however, want to keep Sunday pretty "light" on the food. Here's wishing us BOTH uneventful surgies, quick recoveries and fast losing!

Home stretch and no looking back! This is it and you're doing it! I wish you all the luck. I will be on 2 weeks all liquid diet prior to surgery and the day before will be clear liquids and NPO after midnight. I'm celebrating this weekend since it's my husbands birthday. It's fun. After surgery it's two more weeks of liquid diet for me before progressing to mushy foods. What kind of surgery are you having? Mine's RNY.
