Hi Nate.
Congrats on your approval and your date.
The only advice I can give you is to listen to your Dr's instructions. You have to lose a lot of weight quick, while keeping your portein levels up for the surgery. So stay on course...and did I say listen to your Dr's instructions?
15 or 55 we are all in the same boat. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them. Someone around here will be able to answer it.
Best wishes as your journey begins. Hmmm...First day of spring. Should be a joke in there somewhere...but I can't think of one.
Take care,
Dave
Just remember to take care of yourself! I am getting a RNY-Gastric Bypass so I don't know much about lapband...sorry. One of the things I have heard is that after 10 years your body starts to reject the lap band and they have to take it out. But in that time you can lose alot of weight and learn to take care of yourself to not gain the weight back. Both surgeries offer good sides and bad sides. Alot of people have great results with both surgeries. Good luck with everything and let us know how you are doing. ~Christal/dionysus_star
Congratulations on getting your approval and date.
I am still pre-op..........March 12th, but what i did to help me prepare is to start practicing taking very small bites and chew chew chew, and start trying to get at least 64 oz of fluids in per day. You might want to try and get in as much protein as you can within your diet guidelines......it helps with the healing process.
I wish the best for you, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. These are a great bunch of people here, who will support you and try to answer any questions you might want to ask. But most important..........follow your Dr's directions.
You might also want to check out the lapband forum. they are also a great bunch of people who can answer any questions about the lapband.
Best of luck to you and please keep us informed as to how you are doing.

Hello I'm Johanna
Congratulations on your date, when you get the Lap band you will feel like a total diffrent person, I had gastric bypass in sept of 2006 and i feel great and look great too lol, i know a couple of people that had lap band done at my support group and they lost a lot of weight and they look great, you are young you still have your whole life ahead of you, so keep up the good work. Make sure that you follow all of your doctor's instructions. Good luck and take care of yourself.

Hi Nate! Best of luck and make sure to get as much information about everything as you can now. And you have to follow your physician's and nutritionist/dietician's instructions. It's very important.
I will be having my surgery the day before yours, but I haven't decided whether to do lap band or the gastric bypass. i will figure it out when I meet with the surgeon on the 15th.
Good luck!
Sherry
Nate-
Congrats on your surgery date!!! I browsed your profile, and was glad to see you are holding strong to your dreams. All of us on here have awesome goals. The nice thing about being 15 is that your dreams can change as much as you want. Life is out there for you to enjoy!!! Make sure you keep us updated on your progress,
I just got my insurance approval a few weeks ago, and share in your excitement! I'm doing the RNY on Tuesday, and my wife is scheduled for surgery on March 27th.

I am 48 and I had to lose 20 lbs for my insurance too. I did this by going on the liquid diet that is used for 2 week pre op and 1 week post op. I added cottage cheese tuna and sugar free carnation breakfast to skim milk, (sugar free jello, sugar free popsiscles.) my juke food fix The rest of this is protein. The liquid diet helps to srink the liver so the surgery take less time and helps with a speedy recovery. When I got to my desired weight the insurance wanted I went straight to my famly dr had him put on his prescript pad my weight, bmi, height. I then faxed this to my dr doing the lap-band...The insurance excepted this. It took me about 4 weeks to get this weight off. I also took a multi-vitamin with iron daily so I would not get sick from the lack on calories. The key is high protein, lowfat, and no sugar. I know its hard but it will be worth it.... But as every one else told you check with your dr first to make sure this is right for you....As with any agressive diet clear with dr first.Oh I started my lourney back in Nov.06 I had my lap-band surgery on March 2nd 2006. I have lost 31 lbs since i had to lose the 20 first. The rest has from being on liquid diets to prepare for surgery. Good luck! And again CHECK WITH YOUR DR FIRST!
