SICK - SURGERY 3/20 - WORRIED
Hi. I have been fighting something for a few weeks and am getting worried about my surgery being cancelled. I went in today and got put on antibiotics for sinus infection, but i am having my big pre-op workup tomorrow. That's the EKG and blood work, so I hope things don't get screwed up. i also hope that i am all better by my surgeon's visit on the 15th. if I am sick then he might just pull the plug. Anyone else had their's cancelled due to illness before? It's just a hard time of year with so many bugs going around, and I tried so hard to stay healthy too. Cross your fingers and toes I get better soon!
Sherry
I had the flu a few weeks ago during some of my scheduled pre-op work. I told my surgeon what was going on and he rescheduled my appointments to right before my surgery date as late as he could push them to try and give me time to get better. It took me a solid week of feeling horrible and I felt a bit better. I went and saw my surgeon and he said I'd be good to go by surgery date so no problem. I say just let him know what's going on and he'll let you know what to do. It would be hard to postpone surgery...but you don't want to make it hard on yourself going in sick or your body still recovering. I hope you have a speedy recovery from your sinus infection. Keep positive!

Hi Sherry,
I am sorry to hear you are sick. I do hope that the meds work and your surgery can still be performed.
My hubby has been sick with a bad cold for two weeks. I have been sleeping in another room and taking extra vitamin C. I had a sore throat for a couple days, but that seems to be gone now.
Two weeks from today. I must admit the nerves are getting to me a little. I have had a couple of melt downs, but I know this is the best thing for me.
Take care of yourself,
Wanda
Hi Sherry. I am having the same exact problem. I emailed my surgeon's nurse today to see if they could call me in some antibiotics. I think mine is a sinus infection but it feels like I am starting to get congested too. I just can't let anything delay this surgery for me. I have my Mom coming from Georgia to help out and my hubby is taking vacation...
I hope we both feel better soon. What antibiotic did they put you on?
Jenifer
Sorry to hear you might be sick too. They put me on amoxycillan which did really well for me when I had an infection in December. So far getting much better. My biggest issue right now is a cough due to the drainage - tickles the throat and have to cough to clear it up. My instructions say they won't do surgery if I have a cough or cold, so I have to get rid of this. I am sure I should be over that by my surgery though or at least I hope. My hubby also has time off work planned and my in-laws are coming to help with the kids and housework once dh goes back to work. It will all get messed up if they delay it. Let's hope we all get better soon!
Sherry
Sherry,
How are you doing now that a couple more days have gone by? I'm pulling for you to get better before the surgery. Also, I think it is perfectly normal for you to be worried about your surgery date getting pushed back. I am scheduled for Tuesday, and I have been afraid that something will pop up that will force me to postpone my surgery. THAT SAID, I think you have plenty of time to get over this!!

Thank you Dave. Actually, I am doing much better. The only thing is that I still have a cough and some congestions from sinus drainage. It seems like having a cough could put off the surgery although mine is not from being ill per se. Hopefully that won't keep me form having it.
Best of luck with your surgery on Tuesday. That is exciting! Are you nervous? Ready to go? I hope everything goes well. Take care and keep in touch!
Sherry
If you're already feeling this much better, I help but think you can kick this thing before the 20th. Maybe trying a humidifier and some vaporub can help you with with the after effects.
As for me, being this close to surgery is kind of a mixed bag. I am excited, but also a little nervous. As of right now, I am mostly just excited, and at peace with my decision to move forward. I am trying not to think about how hard it is going to be to adjust to life after surgery.
Best of luck,
Dave
Hi Sherry, we have the same surgery date! I can't wait! I saw my surgeon Thursday for the final visit before surgery. Hopefully nothing will go wrong before then. I will be the first up that day...I love early surgeries...I hate not being able to drink anything. Ice chips is better than nothing. I really don't look forward to the mag citrate though. Hope u feel better and i think your sinus infection should be cleared up by then. Good Luck! Deb
