Barbara, Im glad you had a great time with the grandkids and big kids. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. The weather is L.A. wasn't great, but it didn't stop my walking. I got in 7 miles each day between classes and speakers. I like seeing new things and on foot you sure do get an eye full. I love your saying about moving to lose and resting to rust. It is so true. I'm glad you're back. Have a great day, Rick

Once I figured out I could swallow the vitamins, I determined the calcium pills weren't much bigger - if any - so I gave up the 35 calories for each one and opted for the pills. I seem to swallow them fine, but they were a life savor right after I had surgery. I hate they may be discontinuing them. I have noticed it got harder and harder to find the caramel ones - which were my favorites!

Not sure if anyone heads into other forums on OH but rumor has it they're discontinuing Citrical Chews. I didn't read much into it, but people are looking for them in stores and haven't had much luck finding them. Better form your search party if you're an addict already!

morning Barb, glad you enjoyed your trip and family time. Your sister is in my thoughts, hope things work out for the best with her foot and they don't have to amputate I'm with you on making my new focus to get back on track. As I mentioned in Jannine's post, I'm going back in for foot surgery on Wednesday just to have the screw taken out. It will be quick, suppose to be painless, no crutches, just a surgery boot for 2 weeks. The doctor said it will be very easy to fracture the area since there will be an open hole in the bone so no extra steps, no added exercise, nothing but sitting around and waiting another 2 weeks! All this sitting and no exercise has made me gain 3 lbs and I'm almost at 130 again which frightens me. Clothes are getting tighter, don't feel as healthy, eating too many carbs again.. Its time to re-focus! No exercise doesn't mean I can't choose better foods. Starting fat smash again on March 3rd to get back on track before our surgiversary!! I talked to BF this morning and he mentioned going food shopping after work. He told me he stopped buying soda and switched to seltzer watch for the fizz. He also said his goal everytime he shops is to switch one food for a healthier one (white bread for whole wheat, beans for organics, free range eggs instead of regular) this is a step I never thought in my life I'd see with him! He enjoys his can of soda on occasion, loves sandwiches and considered a snickers bar breakfast! Hes making great strides

morning Jannine! I'm SO in this boat with you!!! I was good at journaling during my trial phase of reactive hypoglycemia, but now that I know what to eat and when I stopped journaling which has only helped commence grazing Sunday's scale reading was 3lbs, 2 ounces away from the 130, the 130 I said when I reached I'd go back to fat smashing again! I can't believe how fast carbs creep back in my life and all over my house!! Its like I open the cabinet and they're there AND I'm eating them I'm sure lack of exercise hasnt helped because of surgery and to make matters worse I'm going in for a second surgery on Wednesday to have the screw removed which means 2 more weeks of no exercise... Can't wait for this winter to end!! I'm planning March 3rd as my day 1 of fat smash if anyones interested in doing the 9 day detox with me! Much easier detox than south beach or atkins, you can still eat fruit and complex carbohydrates!

we missed you too Rick! It was great hearing from Irene for the week, I really took a lot of out what she said especially in her "adjustments" post! I always look at my meal now as 2 or 3 meals, but often if I go to lunch or dinner with my mom I send my left overs home with her because I think, well this way she'll have another meal. In doing that (with mom and with BF I've noticed over the past year that they both have gained a couple lbs) It made me Obviously I know they make their own decisions, but I don't need to help with the cause so that they have "2 meals each time" as Irene said! Moms favorite restaurant is a seafood place in NH. Since I wont eat a whole meal I usually pick fried fantail shrimp, eat a few then send the rest with her Irene's post made me realize I have to stop doing that because I'm just giving them more bad choices. Time to pick better options when eating out so even if I give it away, they're having a healthier meal! Thank Irene for us as her motivation last week was an eye opener and tell her to stop in for visits any time she can

" Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.".....Denis Waitley Well Rick had bad weather in LA, Stephanie had wonderful weather in FL, and I had great weather and a great time in TN!!! We 3 motivational posters all managed to be out of town last week, but thank goodness for Rick's wife, our board maintained our motivational posts in our absence. Thank you so much "Rick's wife" for continuing our posts - I appreciate your good work. I didn't respond each day, but I did read them. I spent a wonderful marvelous week with my 2 beautiful TN grandchildren..4 year old Maddie and 1 year old Drew, as well as spending great time with my son and his wife. Unfortunately my visit with my sister, who is retarded, in poor health, and living in a nursing home was not good. She is severely diabetic - 4 insulin shots a day - morbidly obese - 365 pounds and 5'5" - is bipolar, retarded, manic depressive, suffers from sleep apnea among other maladies. She has a thickening corn type place on the ball of her foot that may turn into an ulcer, which because of the diabetes is extremely hard to heal and may ultimately result in the amputation of her foot. So her future does not look very bright and she is only 55 years old. Just spending a few minutes with her makes me even more thankful that I took the step I took almost 2 years ago to have what I consider life saving WLS. So I say all this to say - maybe you are not at goal yet, maybe you are desperately trying to maintain your loss...so let's now dwell on and focus on what did go right and what steps we need to take next. Spend all our energies on moving forward from today and finding your comfortable zone. Unfortunately I do dwell on my sister's condition and there doesn't seem to be any steps to take to improve her situation. Believe me I have tried, some cases just doesn't seem to have any answers. But I do believe we MARCHers have been given a tool and we have the energy and desire to move forward and make this journey successful. Make today a good day...move to lose, don't rest to rust!!!! Exercise, vitamins, water and protein...that are the steps to take to make today successful. Every day is a new day to move forward and go with me today down the right path. Maybe sometimes seeing or hearing about somebody who is in much worse shape than you are is encouragement enough to move forward. As Rick suggested, if you send a note to the MARCHers 2008 board - read some of their posts and see how eagerly they are awaiting this life saving surgery we had 2 years ago. Remember how far we have come and work towards the successful journey today! Hugs to all...Barbara

http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=jannineh99 this is everything that I put in my mouth today...it seems a bit much...to me at least....but we will see...I need some encouragement from my Marchers to keep up with the journaling and the accountability of the things I eat...to keep me on the straight and narrow....I feel like the straight and narrow has up until recently gotten deep and wide and I am getting nervous and scared about that...so I have kicked myself in the pants and decided that today was the day to start journaling...I hope everyone has had a great weekend and has a HAPPY MONDAY....love you all Jannine

Topic: Note from the "real Rick"
Hello all, First of all thank you all for responding to my wife's posts last week in my absence. She really enjoyed writing the posts and was anxious to see how well they were received. She now better understands how someone can develop a closeness to someone they have never met in person. I wish I could say the weather was as nice in L.A. as it was for Stephanie in Florida, but it wasn't - Oh well. I would also like to encourage each of us to send a note on the 2008 "Marcher's" board to encourage them in the journey they are about to take. It's good to be back home and online again. I missed all of you. Have a great week, Rick

Hi there. I'm glad you popped in to share with us. No one can tell you what is right or wrong for you. Each of us is an individual with different struggles and different paths to success. I personally am not anti-carb and believe that moderation is the key to most of life. Certainly, there are things I wish I was more consistent about (exercise, more protein, etc.). But those things are merely challenges I continue to work on. You, and only you, can define success for yourself. If you are happy and healthy at your current weight, how can that be anything but success??? True health incorporates our bodies, minds, and spirits. Each of these components work together to create one healthy individual. If your body is healthy, your mind is healthy, and your spirit is healthy...I'd say you are doing very well! Those are just my two (or three!) cents. Stephanie
