What kind of fiber are we able to eat/take. I am having a real rough time if you know what I mean I decided to start eating a high fiber cereal but that didn't help. Tried looking on the internet for info and didn't really find much. I am glad to read that others are around 5-10 pounds near their lowest weight. I too seem to bounce up and down around that area. It is so much easier to get a handle on it now that it ever was before! Hope all is well with everyone! Pam

Stephanie, Thank you for your kind words. I probably should include a new picture, but it's back to that head thing again. I don't think I look like my picture. I guess Kodak can't be wrong. Have a great day, Rick

Happy Surgiversary, Rick! Guess what? You are a regular, normal, medium sized man! Yup, that's right. Normal and medium. Thank you for these last two years of support and for sharing your journey with us. You've accomplished many things and it's great that you can make plans for new adventures without thinking about your size! I'm so proud of you! Hugs, Stephanie P.S. I believe we need a new picture!

Topic: My two year update - nothing dramtic
March 20, 2008 Today it has been two years since I had this life saving, life changing surgery. The last year has been nothing like the first year at all. This year has ben all about maintenance. Trying to maintain the loss I achieved during the first year through monitoring my food intake and balancing it with the amount of physical activity needed to offset the calories consumed. I have managed to remain within 10 pounds of my lowest weight of 174 pounds. I currently weight 181 pounds, but I would like to get back down to the 175 pound range. I can pretty much eat anything I want with little or no consequences. I still weigh every day so that I am not suddenly surprised by a major weight gain. There has been a time when I gained about 5 pounds in two weeks and I decided I needed to get things under control so I went through the 5 day pouch test diet. It worked well for me. I lost 8 pounds in the five days and it put me back on track. I'm glad to know I can resort to that short term diet in the future if needed. I have had no new health concerns during the last year and continue to have endless energy. Recently I went on a zip line adventure. I would never have even considered something like this 2 years ago. I have the prospect of a bright future that isn't limited by the amount of physical activity I can endure. I still need to continue to work on my perception of myself. I still feel like a large person, but the beauty is that while my head thinks I'm big, I fit in a medium size shirt, so I guess I must not be that big after all. I very rarely get compliments on my dramatic weight loss. I guess others are just getting used to the new me and no longer are amazed with the distance I have traveled. Every so often I will run into someone that I haven't seen in years and they are amazed with my physical appearance. That always brings a smile to my face. I look forward to the future and all that it has to offer My current weight is 181 pounds. I will have my 2 year checkup in a few weeks and I will see what my blood tests show, but I do not anticipate any problems. I can't say how lucky I feel to have had this opportunity to change my life. I am grateful for all of the support I have received through this process. Life is great, Rick P.S. Surgery twin (Darlene) I hope you check in on our day. I have missed you on here.

Starting and surgery weight: 359, current weight 138-145, goal 150 Starting sizes were 4X, 32-34, current sizes: 8 & 10, Medium Do you have any regrets since surgery? I wish I could have done it sooner. Sometimes I wish I had the DS instead of RNY, because I'd like to eat more than I do. I still fight those food demons. What has been the easiest and hardest things to accomplish? It has been very easy to reach my goal weight. When some people think that WLS is the easy way out, I agree, because in my case, this was the easiest "diet" I've ever been on. I have surgery induced self control. Unfortunately it won't last forever, but I've learned the proper foods to eat and know that I will use my tool for life to stay at a healthy weight. The hardest thing is to get it in my mind that I'm no longer the obese girl who has to shop at special stores with limited choices. I still see the fat girl in the mirror, and I wonder when that will change. Any complications or new medical findings you've had since your 1 year anniversary? I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I might have had it before surgery and thought it was just because I was overweight. But I've read that traumatic events or major surgery can cause someone to have FM, so who knows, my surgery could have caused it. My sister has it, and we think our mom has it, so I guess it runs in the family. Any lifestyle changes you've made or have happened since your 1 year mark? I've been thinking lately about whether or not I want children. I still teeter back and forth, and who knows what I'll decide. That's the only thing that's been going on with me. Bad habit you've reverted back to? I eat way too much candy. I really need to stop. I guess if I start putting on weight I'll stop. I really need to get help with this issue. Any thing you wish you would have done differently during your post-op journey? I wish I would have added a regular exercise routine very soon after surgery. I have a lot of loose skin on my legs, arms and belly. I wish at least my legs and arms were more firm so I could wear shorts and sleeveless tops. Favorite post op recipe you make often (please share with us ) I'm not really a cook. I eat out most of the time. (Yes, I eat fast food and I keep it healthy! Most days I have either a chicken breast and baked potato or 4 oz of pulled BBQ Pork and an ear of Corn on the Cob. I'm a creature of habit. I eat the same thing over and over.) I guess if I would share a recipe it would be this: Chicken Taco Salad 1. Cook 3-4 chicken breasts in a Crock Pot, cover them in water. Cook all day on low. 2. Drain the water and shred the chicken. Put in fridge. 3. Next day, put the shredded chicken back in the Crock Pot. Put 1-2 cans of Chicken broth, and a packet of taco seasoning. Cook all day on low. 4. Drain Chicken and enjoy! I made this before I had surgery, and put it on a crust made with cressant rolls, refried beans, salsa and cheddar cheese. It was absolutely yummy!! My favorite thing to eat by far. Now I just weigh 4 oz of chicken, then add cheese, sour cream and eat it. Love it!
