Topic: Marcher's at goal - good eating habits
It is important to establish good eating habits. If you haven't already developed these habits now is a good time to start working on them. When we eat it should be for the enjoyment of the food and to meet our nutritional needs. Try not to eat when you are distracted by another activity. Don't eat in front of the television or while reading. We should be eating slowly. It should take twenty to thirty minutes to eat each meal. This gives our bodies time to eat without discomfort and to get in a proper amount of food. Chew your food completely. Enjoy the food you are eating and savor the taste. We no longer are concerned with how much food we can eat. We can enjoy our meals. This also aids in the digestive process since we do not have as much stomach acid to break down our food. Do not drink while you eat. If we drink when we eat it flushes the food out of our pouch to quickly and we don't get a feeling of fullness. I used to think if I drank while I ate something that it would flush out the calories before they had a chance to be absorbed. Of course, I was wrong. Use a small plate and utensils. By using a smaller plate our brain thinks it is satisfied with a smaller amount of food and it keeps our portions smaller. Measure your food. If we measure our food there will be no surprises in the amount we consume. It is also a good idea to put the food on your plate before you sit down at the table and leave the rest of the food in the kitchen. There is less temptation to take seconds. Eat protein first. This is one of the most important substances our bodies need now to be healthy. We have all learning these important habits we just must incorporate them into our lives for a healthy wellbeing. Please share the good eating habits have you learned and what a difference it has made in your life. Have a great day, Rick

So sorry to hear that Wyatt is feeling so bad. I pray he will get well very soon. Having sick children is very exhausting! Take extra care of yourself during this time. Hugs, Robin

YEAH...another person helping Rick and I get across the country. We so far have several signing up - and maybe after another week of suggesting it - I can capture more MARCHers for our October walk-a-thon!!! I wonder if Rebeka has a big living room - she actually I can blame for this October walk-a-thon madness...she turned me onto a pedometer and it has become glued to my side!!!! Barb

Thank goodness my little tool knows when it has had enough. Now if it could just figure out that between meals I DON'T need that peanut butter or those dang nuts...well my tool and I would be totally successful. BUT - I am working on it and I am going to get there. Have gone 4 days without peanut butter or nuts - have been at home and too busy to think about it. Maybe I should quit work???? UHG....NOT - must work 5 more years! But I thank God I feel like working and have such good health. Just need to throw the nuts and peanut butter at work AWAY!!!! Thanks for making us think about it! John and I were both off today - I had to go to the orthopedic doctor - seems I have bursitis in my hip which hopefully after physical therapy for a few weeks will improve. But when we got home from the doctor - we walked down to the river which was about a 2 1/2 mile round trip. We left the pugs at home because they have to smell everything in sight and it would take us hours! We did walk them around the block before we began. It is nice walking with hubby - makes it oh so enjoyable. Have fun on your walk tonight!!! Barbara

Stephanie, Life is definately a learning expierence. It really seems that I can eat so much more food now and there really isn't any type of food that I can't eat. It is a challenge every day. Have a great day, Rick

Barbara, You are so right. This is a roller coaster ride. The good part is it does get somewhat easier when we get to the coasting part, but we must always be watchful for the next downward spiral. Have a great day, Rick
