Topic: RE: Are you more confident as a slimmer person?
Barbara,
I am so impressed and proud of you. You saw an opportunity and have gone for it. They are SO lucky to have you. You will be bringing your knowledge and expierence to your new position. You will be one of the big wigs. I hope this means your commute will be less, however traveling for your new position will be more, but maybe on company time.
This is so exciting for you. Please don't forget the rest of us "little" people.
Thank you for your best wishes on my upcoming interview.
Have a great day, Rick

Congats on your new job Miss Barb! That is awesome!
Topic: RE: Are you more confident as a slimmer person?
Well Rick, I did do something about 3 months ago that perhaps I wouldn't have done 2 years ago. As you all know I work for the state of MA as a program specialist with the Division of Unemployment Insurance. Recently a position became available with the Federal Department of Labor. I applied for this position. I have 37 years experience with unemployment insurance - 30 years in TN, 1 year working in NH after I moved here and 6 years with MA. I have thorough knowledge of my subject matter as I have worked in it for so many years. This position with the federal government meant I would use that experience but in addition I would be responsible for a couple of states in New England which would mean travelling and meeting with their top line directors/commissioners, etc. 2 years ago I would not have felt comfortable meeting with these "high up" execs. Now I am still a little in awe of these folks - they are the leaders of their unemployment agencies.
Anyway, I applied for the job. There were over 50 people that applied. They narrowed the field down to 15 they interviewed. I was in the 15. The first interview was with the supervisor of the unit and his supervisor. If you passed that interview you went on to be interviewed by the staff of 10. The staff had to approve you because they all work so closely together as a team and they wanted a team member. I was one of 3 of the 15 that got invited back for the 2nd interview with the staff. Guess what????? I start my new job Oct 29!!!! I did it...I passed the mustard...they wanted me! Is it because I am more confident? I do think that has something to do with it, but I also know I bring alot of knowledge to the position and I think that helped some also. But I will be 57 years old in a couple of weeks and I am changing careers yet again - for the 4th time in my life. I am confident I can do it, I look forward to my new responsibilities and I think much of it can be attributed to my new attitude towards myself with this weight loss. So I guess that courage factor is a little different than 2 years ago!!!!
You sure have had some great thought provoking posts my friend! So Rick I know you will do great with interviewing for the new position. Just show up and I think because you are Rick they will consider themselves lucky to have you. Go for it and let us know how it goes. Barbara
Topic: MARCHers going to goal!
Effective people are not problem-minded; they're opportunity-minded. They feed opportunities and starve problems.......Stephen Covey
OK MARCHers - let's feed some opportunities today and starve our problems! Pretty simple -hey? We have the opportunity to feed with only the right things...more protein, less JUNK!!! Let's starve our problems...snacking, grazing, soft feel good carbohydrates!
Let's take today and make it an opportunity to solve our problem....and that problem being our desire to get to goal sooner than later.
What opportunity will you have today to move towards goal? Our surgeons did it for us initially - they gave us the tool to solve our problem, but now it is ALL left us to up - no one else can help us - we have to do this ourselves. Take that opportunity today to make the right choices. Hugs to all....Barbara
