Topic: RE: Roll Call! Post your progress!
I want to maintain where I am......yes, stick me with a fork.....I'm done!!!
I also need to add that this WLS has really SAVED MY LIFE in more ways than just losing weight. Many already know that last May I was weighing 140 and feeling several lumps in my groin area. At first I thought it maybe was something normal....just something that had always been padded with a fat belly. I had my PCP check it....and after several tests and biopsies and surgery in June....I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and am now in the middle of chemotherapy. Although I am totally hairless right now (
what a visual, huh!!) I am sooo thankful for WLS....I might not have ever felt those lumps through my belly padding and the cancer could have totally gone wild!!! I have a MUCH better chance of survival now.
My daughter had never really thought surgery was for her......until she saw firsthand my success and the success of others as she came with me to WLS social functions and visited with others. She will have her 2nd psych evaluation on 10/29....and as soon as the surgeon gets the report, she will get a surgery date. She hopes it might be in late November or sometime in December. Aaahhh...what a great year 2008 will be for her!!!

Topic: Random acts of kindness.
I know all of you are kind and generous people. My challenge for you today is to commit a random act of kindness. Find someone that needs to be encouraged and lift them up. Put a quarter in someone else's meter that is about to expire. (We don't have a single parking meter in the county I live in) Hold the door open for someone. Say a kind word. Be a friend. Put a smile on your face and try to illicit one from someone else. Be positive. Take the time to really listen to someone. Play a game with a child. Call an old friend. Put a card in the mail. Give someone a hug for no reason at all. Tell someone you care and mean it.
Let me know how you have changed someone's life today. The best part is that when you do something for someone else, it makes YOU a happier, better person.
Have a great (and kind filled) day.
Life is great (because of each of you). Rick

Sorry to hear about your headaches, I'm the same way if I don't have caffeine. I've cut down to 1 cup a day and eventually want to switch that to decaf, but fully leaded is the current morning beverage
You're the crockpot queen!!
I always forget about mine til I read your posts, thanks for all the great ideas

Topic: RE: We all make choices
Hi,
It's good that you have figured out some of these things. I'm glad you can be honest with your nutritionist. It sure makes their job eaiser when people are up front with them. I have pretty much been afraid of alcohol. I have had very little since surgery. I didn't really drink much prior to surgery either. The thought of losing control scares me and if it is easier now with my new plumbing, I'm not sure I want to go there.
Thanks for your response. Rick
Topic: RE: How healthy is your family?
Good question Rick!
Sadly, in all honesty the answer to your question is no..
My family doesn't live with me and I don't have kids. I'm the shopper and am in the store for about an hour reading labels, picking the right ingredients.
My sister travels a lot for work so her and her bf constantly eat out (even when they're home). My brothers single and a state trooper, no breakfast, fast food for lunch and dinner is his daily routine. Hes skinny as a beanpole, fast metobolism and could eat twice the amount I could as a pre-op (my father was the same way at his age, hes still young so hes got that working for him). Mom eats a lot of veggies, but still loves her chips and french fries. The only thing thats changed with BF is hes exercising with me
His foods haven't really, he still loves his beer on the weekend.. I'm happy he exercises, when I cook, he eats it healthy, I suppose anything helps!

Topic: RE: We all make choices
As with some fellow Marchers who have posted about their ups and downs, I too have gone up and down with the right choices. Theres weeks (even months in the early days) where I would be on the money every day. Now that we're further out, I find it easier to eat things I shouldn't or drink alcohol more often than I should.. Since we got back from the cruise theres been only 1 night out that I had a drink. I know its not something we should do often (my nutritionist says an occasional glass here and there is ok), but there were times I was drinking much too often.
Another obsitcle I came across a few months ago was drinking a protein shake to get my protein in just so I was able to eat more carbs or junk foods. I knew if I drank a shake, I could have an extra handful of oyster crackers or a couple more pretzels or even a little more pasta than I'm use to.. My nutritionist clearly thinks I'm
since everytime I do something like this (alcohol, shakes to eat carbs, not eating right, caffeine) I tell her. Its like I'm going in for confession
She likes that I'm honest, I like that I can be truthful and get back on track!
