Topic: RE: Did you treat yourself?
Amen! When I was nearly 500 pounds I admit that I thought 'What's the point?' when really, that's when I should have been the most adament. I just saw a HUGE mountain that I had to climb and I was at the bottom and already physically and emotionally exhausted. Now, I see can see a beautiful meadow through the trees as I stroll downhill and life is a thrill instead of a burden. It amazes me how just having the hope of a long and happy life can give me the strength to want to continue.

I've never tried Quinoa but have read about it too. How do you cook it? In broth like couscous? You don't want to know what I ate today and I hardly want to remember! Did have 2 double protein drinks though just in case the protein in chocolate doesn't add up to much. Argh.
Topic: RE: What do you do to treat yourself?
Oh goodness, I'm not sure it's a treat if I eat it every day
Some of my favorites are pumpkin fluff (canned pumpkin, sf vanilla pudding, pumpkin pie spice and a little Cool Whip) with a few graham cracker sticks, Fruitabu fruit leather (sort of like a fruit roll up but dried fruit puree instead of corn syrup), sf choc. pudding with a few cookies from those 100 cal. packs of oreo crisps, sf pudding frozen.. Boy, I see that I love pudding!

Topic: Did you treat yourself?
After a day, a weekend or a vacation of treating yourself what do you do? Do you throw in the towel and just say "oh well, I'm a failure" I may as well not even try any longer or do you just take it for what it was, a break from our new eating lifestyle. In the past my style when I was on a diet was just to say to myself that I screwed up so why continue trying? Now I try to get back on the program again and start over. I think its okay to take a small break every now and then, but we need to realize that we must get back to basics to achieve the life long results we hope to attain. It is also easy to do the same thing when we break a routine in our exercise program. The longer we stray from doing the right thing the harder it is to get back on track.
The lesson to be learned is that we all treat ourselves, but as soon as possible try to reestablish the routine that has helped us achieve the success we have thus far.
It is never to last to start over. It is never too late to be successful and what you truly want to achieve. Today is a new day. Make the most of it.
Life is great, Rick
Topic: WDYET?? *** HAPPY HALLOWEEN ***
Happy Halloween everyone
I decided to get gutsy and wear the outfit I posted from Saturday to work today (black sweater, mini skirt, boots to the knee). I figured what a perfect day to wear it, I'll either pull it off or the students will think I'm a go-go dancer!
so far so good!
I've been on this health kick lately and have been trying to read more about good foods for you, things to eat instead of other things, what to avoid, what are considered "super foods" and learned about a food called "Quinoa" its pronounced keen-wa, looks like barley, has the consistency of al-dente pasta and (to me atleast) taste like the seeds of steamed summer sqash
) Its considered a grain, is very good for you, low in carbs, high in protein and fiber. Since my goal is to eat healthier, I figured I'd give it a shot.. Its not bad, might take a little bit to get use to (or will be better prepared in different ways) but its good for me, so I'm going to adapt!
so heres my day
drive to work - iso fruit cantaloupe protein shake
medium sf coconut coffee, x-smart milk
breakfast - 2 apple protein muffins
lunch - 8 shrimp and 1/2 c. quinoa
dinner - jannines creamy chicken
snack - pear with gorgonzola cheese
vitamins - all in
water -2 - 22oz glasses so far
exercise - long walk to dunkins, 2 mile walk at lunch, walked at our 15 min break. my goal is to log 10 miles today! I'm going out with my God Children to trick or treat so hopefully that will be a mile or 2, maybe I'll squeeze in a quick walk after work too

Topic: RE: 4th stop on our walk.....
My this is an interesting little town. It has just about the right amount of people for my tastes. I think the part I would enjoy the ost is the Iowa speedway. It sure does have a variety of things to offer from the wrestling museum to live theatre.
It looks like we have been fairly consistent with our jaunt across the country.
Thanks for keeping track of us.
Have a great day, Rick
