:help: sipping or gulping???
LAP RNY 3/30; no complications; down 20 pounds; wonderful so far...but, am i sipping or gulping? or just being paranoid?? In the hospitalI received 1 ounce medicine cups to sip from, 2 every thirty minutes.....now that is a sip, like a couple of drops....but over the last week i've been able to take very normal size sips, maybe and ounce or two at a time....is that too much? am i paranoid...i am afraid of stretching my pouch?
Good Luck Everyone!!
I totally understand what your saying. I can also take relatively normal sips, about 4 decent size ones at once, 5 - 6 is pushing it, I'll start to feel full and feel the air moving around, then have to burp.
I too am afraid of stretching my pouch. I have heard that because it is totally water like, it drains right through the stoma just like water through a funnel.
Does anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions on how much might be too much. My pouch only feels slightly full, more like comfortable, when I drink the 4 good size sips.

I asked this question on Friday at my first bariatric support group meeting. The nutritionist said that I shouldn't worry about the size of my sips/gulps so much. She said it would be difficult to stretch my pouch through consumption of non-carbonated, low-calorie or calorie-free liquids. I still can't drink/gulp huge quantities of water like I could prior to surgery. I am thankful that I can drink more than I could right after surgery or I'd never get in the minimum requirements for liquid! I can always tell when I've been drinking too fast. My stomach lets me know!
