Caffein - do you or don't you?
WOW - 100 ounces of water a day - you go guy! I usually try to get in 4 - 16 oz bottles of water a day - in addition to my unsweetened tea. Now going into a donut shop is not a problem....DRIVE-IN is readily available. You can smell those evil donuts sometimes, but I don't dare take a chance on massive sickness from having one! Fortunately that is one sweet thing I don't have a desire for. I guess my caffeine is in "moderation" currently! Thanks for your reply! Barbara
Hi Barb,
I've done caffeine since 6 months out. I quit for surgery and after, but couldn't handle my "unleaded" mornings anymore!
I drink a latte w/skim milk every a.m. It's 2 espresso shots .
I have never noticed a link between my coffee and any cravings. And I figure I drink enough water to make up for it.

Hey Rebeka - thanks for your response. I just started drinking the tea about a month ago - so I waited about 16 months for any caffeine. I have never drunk coffee so that was a problem, but the "southern girl" in me loves her iced tea - even though I switched years ago from sugar to splenda/equal! I suppose everything in moderation is the key...so think I will continue with my "daily dose" of tea! Barb
I have hot coffee every morning, then around noon I make a Big Train Low Carb Frappacino, and I add a scoop of protein to it in the blender. So I'm getting 2 servings of caffeine a day
Like Rebeka A. said, I waited several months after surgery before I started caffeine again. I also asked my surgeon Dr. Suh if I could, and he said yes, as long as I get plenty of fluids in, since the caffeine can dehydrate us easily (make us pee a lot and then its hard to replenish fluids very quickly)...
I was never told that caffeine can cause us to crave more carbs... Is that true? I haven't noticed... I just notice I want more carbs if I've eaten carbs, so carbs cause more carbs, making a vicious cycle

Hi Rebecca - nice to hear your surgeon isn't negative about caffeine - as long as you are getting in plenty of fluids. I try to drink at least 4-5 16 oz. bottles of water a day and now the tea. You are right - the bathroom is my best buddy....put a TV in there and I could watch my soap!!!! Thanks for your reply...Barb
Hiya! I drin****d tea too. I haven't tried the DD iced tea because I'm afraid I will like it TOO much.
It sounds so good. I do buy the Wal-Mart brand Crystal Light peach iced tea because it doesn't have any caffeine versus the actual Crystal Light iced teas which do have a small amount. I try to drink an extra glass of water at some point during the day when I drin****d tea. I don't like coffee either so that doesn't haunt me. I think as long as you are also working on your intake of non-caffeinated beverages, you're a-okay! But of course, I'm not a doctor. I only play one on TV
!
Hugs, Stephanie

medium coconut iced coffee, xmilk, 3 splenda thats me!
I've been having caffeine since 3 or 4 months post-op and honestly dont have plans to stop... I have a cup a day (sometimes a second one if needed to wake up) and thats that. At first I was concerned about it, but after talking to Dr. Shore and Shannon about it, they all said it was ok as long as we're getting our water in. The biggest reason they say no caffeine is because at first we're getting so little liquid that caffeine could dehydrate us, but now that we're vetrans we shouldn't to worry about it.
I never thought about it triggering carbs, I'll have to pay more attention to it! It sounds like we all need a coffee drinkers annon club, I completely agree with Kathy, Dunkins IS evil!!!!
I only tried the raspberry iced tea at dunkins, I like how light it is, be forewarned I heard the iced tea was a limited time thing (maybe for the summer only
) so get your fix in while its still here
