My One Year Surgiversary Today--Woohoo!

Hello Marchers~~ Today marks the 1 year mark for me! Hard to believe it has gone by so fast. I've been thinking about all the good habits I've learned throughout the year. I've learned that alot of my eating habits prior to surgery were exactly that.....HABITS!! Now my normal intake for a whole day is less than one meal prior to surgery! I've learned that if I miss meals during the day, I can't squeeze in extra during supertime to try to make up for it! It just won't fit! Water and vitamins have become a habitual ritual just as much as brushing my teeth! I even took up flossing every night. I'm still having trouble wearing clothes that actually fit me. For some reason....one size bigger than my actual size is what I end up wearing. I'm down from a size 32 to a 16 at this point. I've lost 105 pounds and have about 40 more to go. I've never been able to say "I only have 40 lbs to lose" in my life. This surgery has been a surreal experience, as I know it has been for all of you. I love life so much more.....sitting in booths and complaining because there is too MUCH room between me and the table! Crossing my legs (either side!) Being cold instead of hot and sweaty all the time--I love having to wear sweatshirts and long johns! I love not being recognized, but yet being seen for the first time by many. It's been interesting to learn the type of "friends" who only like you when you are thin--and then there are those true blue friends and family who love you the exact same no matter what size I am. I love hugging those people and telling them how much they meant to me when I was heavier and didn't even love myself very much. I love being able to wear necklaces, and bracelets and rings that didn't fit before. And wearing under-garmet thingies right off the shelf. It's wonderful not having to pay the extra $6 just because I had to buy plus size. When I purchase my large shirts now....it still looks to me like it won't fit--but miraculously it always does! I love being able to wear my husbands coat when I get too cold. Well....I could go on and on about all the self-discovery I've enjoyed this year. One of the things I have MOST enjoyed this year was discovering all the wonderful friends on this March 2006 board. I look forward to many years in our futures to meet one another and continue always with our internet and snail-mail support. You guys rock! I'm so happy to be making this journey with each and every one of you! Thanks and LOVE to all! Tamara

Tamara, It was so great to read about your year in review. I can so relate to most of the things you have said. Life is so much better now. You have made the most of it. I hope we will always remember where we have come from and always appreciate thoses things that most "normal" people take for granted. It can only get better from here. I am proud of you for how well you have done. I agree with you about the support of this board. I come here daily and post occasionally, but it always brightens by day. Life is great, Rick

I love your post! A great recap of a great year! You deserve all that and more! You have worked so hard and look so great! My new favorite thing is T-shirts from The Gap--who knew you could buy shirts for only FIVE dollars??!?? You never see plus size anything for that price!!! I wish you continued success. Rebeka

Tamara, congratulations! I am so proud of all that you have accomplished this year. Isn't it wonderful to experience "normal" things for what seems to be the first time? I hope you continue to enjoy every moment! Hugs, Stephanie
