Laura, have you always been this way with low calories or only since you've been sick? under 600 calories is starvation mode, maybe an extra glass of milk or yogurt or something can push you over to alteast 600 til you feel better? hope you're on the mend soon!

I was averaging about 700 calories before I got sick. I called my surgeon's nurse and when I can get to their office (it is 3 hours away) I'm going to use a machine they have that tells you how many calories your body needs, your basal metabolism rate, percentage of body fat, muscle, water, etc. For now the nurse told me that as long as I'm still losing, not to worry about how many calories I eat. I'm going to strive for 700 calories tomorrow! Maybe I'll have some steamed milk before bed tonight to up my calories/protein for today. Thanks for the idea! Laura

I normally get between 700 and 800 calories a day, my nutritionist seems fine with it. good luck with your appt when they check everything for you how do you steam milk? just in a pan on the stove? that sounds yummy maybe with a dash of cinnamon and/or little splenda!

I bought an espresso machine just so I could steam milk. I don't drink coffee but I couldn't live without my espresso machine! lol Before my espresso machine I would just heat the milk on the stove or in the microwave, but it isn't as "frothy" as with the steamer. I have made it with splenda and cinnamon, or splenda and nutmeg, but I usually mix in Davinci sugar-free syrup (1 oz. per 8 oz. of milk). I love it with vanilla, white chocolate, chocolate, or caramel. Very yummy! I also use the Hood Calorie Countdown fat free dairy beverage so 8 oz. has 45 calories and 8 grams of protein.

you're making me want to go out and get an espresso machine lol! I'm such a gadget person its awful I have some sugar free syrups maybe I'll try it espically since I buy some smart milk and have to throw half of it out (I use it only for oatmeal, not a milk drinker, but really need to try for the extra protein)

I was never a milk drinker until I discovered steamed milk. For a special treat I put some fat free cool-whip on top!
