Has anyone had their bilirubin level come back on the high side? I just wondered what that could mean...Mine has slowly been going up. Thanks

Hi Jana. I had never heard of bilirubin before so I looked it up on the web. This article lists a few reasons why a bilirubin level could be high and also states the normal ranges for this level. I'm sure your PCP can let you know if your level is an issue. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003479.htm Good luck! - Stephanie

I think but don't hold me to it..it lets the doc know if your iron is low. Mimi

Hi Jana. My bilirubin has been slightly elevated as well. Bilirubin is an indicator of liver function. Mine has been about 1.4, slightly above the normal range. My doctor is not concerned. I spoke with some of the nurses at work and they told me you don't become jaundiced until you hit about 3.5. Since my gallbladder was removed my liver is working overtime processing the bile. My doc says we'll watch it, but nothing to be concerned about at this point. How high is yours?
