Depressing month
This last month has not ben my best. It started when I hit a platuea about 5 weeks ago. Since then I've lost only 6 pounds. What's really upsetting is they had to take my tonsils out Friday. It seems they were in really bad shape and had a growth on one side. I have ben in excrutiating pain ever since then and was in the ER throwing up last night. I haven't eaten ANYTHING since Thursday night. I can get a small amount of water down. They atually have you basically live off of pain meds after this. For anyone thinking about it, DON'T DO IT!!!! It is horrible pain!! It makes my gastric look easy!
I'm miserable, in pain, and after 4 1/2 months I've only lost 88 pounds. I've cried more in the last few days than I have in years. HELP!

Shana, big hugs for you! I'm sorry you are in such pain. I hope that gets better very soon. I do want to tell you, that 88 pounds in 4 1/2 months is amazing weight loss! You've lost 30 more pounds than I have in that amount of time. Congratulations! I know that our weight loss will continue to slow to the point where we will be losing 1 to 2 pounds each month. I'm not sure when that happens, but chances are good it will happen. I hope you can talk yourself into feeling good about that 88 pounds! It's amazing progress and you should be very proud of yourself!

Shana,
I feel for you about your tonsils! That is so hard to go through, especially as an adult!
I also have been stuck, so you are not alone. I have only lost 1 or 2 pounds over the past 3 - 4 weeks. I just keep telling myself that it will pass, that the weight will come off. I have not lost as much as you, so be proud of what you have accomplished so far!
Pat
Shana - oh I feel for you - pain is horrible!! and pain meds are not much better to be honest
88 pounds is not bad in 4 months - I am down 93 and have over 100 to go to hit my high goal wieght of just being overweight as oposed to obese. so hang in there - are your clothes fitting better? do you mesure? I have not droped a single pound this month but have been dropping inches so have faith - if you are not eating you certainly are not gaining.
make sure they know that afterwards you must have low sugar or sugar free stuff or you may end up sick from what they bring you.
are you able to do thin soups? how about a can of lowfat cream of something run thought the blender mixed with milk - that would get you some protien and it might make you feel better - you will also heal faster from your surgery on your tonsiles if you can get ANY protien into your system
hugs

Shana,
I have not had my tonsils out, but I do want to let you know I hope you get to feeling better. 88 pounds is nothing to balk at! That's great. I think we are at a time when the weight loss slows down. I have been battling the same few pounds for nearly a month now, and finally I got down past the 270s today. I've been between 272 and 276 for at least a month now. Now I'm 268. I nearly cried. Finally! It will happen for you too. Don't lose hope!! I hope you get to feeling better!

Shana,
I know that the plateau is really depressing! Be encouraged that this will pass. Your body is not done yet, just adjusting. Also, you have done an amazing job! You have lost 25 lbs more than I have in the same time. What a great accomplishment.
A friend of ours recently had her tonsils out too. She said that it was about two weeks before she really startd feeling like herself again. She had a very sore throat for over a week. I hope that you heal really soon and that you feel like yourself again before you know it. Hang in there sweetie!
Hugs, Robin
Shana,
I had my tonsils out when I was 21 , so I know it is NOT a fun experience as an adult. The pain will get better! Keep woking on getting your fluids in and go to ER for fluids if you're dehydrated.
ONLY 88 lbs? I've lost 82 in 4.5 months so you're doing better than me. We all lose at different rates and 88 lbs is great! Be proud of your loss and focus on recovering from you tonsilectomy!
Elizabeth
I didn't mean to offend anyone by saying only 88 pounds. Heck as of this mornning it's now 94 pounds. It's just this surgery that has me so depressed. If I had any idea of the pain involved I would NOT have agreed to do it. Never let them take out your tonsils unless death is the other option!!! The gastric surgery, fertility treatments (painful IVF's) don't even light a candle next to this surgery. There's no relief. I can't eat, I can't talk, I can't drink. They make you take liquid lortab every 3 1/2 hours which is really hard on our pouches when they are empty. So I start dry heaving about 30 minutes later. I HATE the hospital and keep having to go in for some kind of shot because my pouch has decided it doesn't like phenegen (sp). Finally we found some that a local pharmacy makes that you spread on your arm and it seems to be working. Today I've been trying to avoid the lortab. I made it from 4am to noon without, so that's better. I actually got two spoonfuls of yogurt down before taking the lortab so my pouch isn't as unhappy. i might even try some more yogurt later!
I set really high goals for myself with this surgery. I think I've taken on to much. I run my own business, I'm trying to sell my house, I've already bought the new one and am moving in 2 weeks, 2 mortgages is scary, and take care of my 3 year old and doing this stupid tonsil thing. You ever feel like you just set goals to high for yourself? I don't know if they are to high, or if I just set to many. But now I don't know how to slow down. I feel like I'm running out of energy and time for everything. As far as my weight loss, I did get really depressed when the scale stopped moving for so long. I wasn't losing inches or pounds, I was just sitting. Now I'm losing, but not the healthy way because I just can't eat. I always thought when I hit the 100 pound mark I would be more excited about it, but right now I don't have time to think about it. I only have 53 pounds until my goal weight.
Now I realize I'm whining. Sorry. Maybe the pain meds are getting to me. I need to just get over it.
