Yummy multi-vitamin
I had been trying to swallow those huge horse pill multi-vitamins with so much difficulty. I was at Walgreen's last night picking up my birth control and right outside the pharmacy counter they had the new Viactive Multi-Vitamin chews. I bought the chocolate covered cherry ones. They are so good! I will definitely get my multi vitamins in everday now. And they have calcium in them so no seperate calcium pill!
Another good resource for vitamins are those from Bariatric Advantage. Their vitamins are chewables and they are made specifically for the needs of bariatric patients.
Here's their website: http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/
oh I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if they have iron in them you will NOT absorb the calcuim so you still need a couple of those a day
I have to limit my chewable yummy vits b/c I take 3000 mg a day of cal. and that would be like210 calories in cal alone so I get 2 of the good citracal chews a day and the rest I have to swollow like it or not - but I have gotten to where pills don't bug me much - the first month I thought I would DIE from taking pills

Danni - why do you take so much calcium? I only ask because I went for my 3 month check up today and all my lab work was back. I take 1200 mg of calcium a day and am 55 years old (already gone through the change - thank goodness). I take 2 chewable Citrical and one 200 mg. citrical mini. My blood work showed my calcium level was perfect - meaning I am not pulling calcium from my bones. Did your doctor prescribe 3000 mg??? That just seems like a lot for a young woman!!!! And I liked the post to the site where you put all your calculations in and it determines your protein and water levels. I do good getting in 70-85 oz a day of water - time just doesn't let me get much more in!
Of course you do so much exercise - more so than anyone else on here! So I was just curious about why you take so much calcium! Barb
I have been a nursing momma for a total of 5yrs and got in the habit of taking 2000 then - plus now we have absorbtion issues and are at more risk for brittle bones and I am on depo which also adds to the risk. most people need more than the 1200 mg that is RDA anyhow. I came up with the number after doing a lot of research on WLS and reading on a yahoo group that is called soemthing like grads group - you can leark but not post till you are one full year out and a lot of people on that list are having problems several yrs out due to lack of good vit info. think of it this way - if I needed 2000 mg before and now my body absorbs 50-70% of the cal. I am getting that is only1000-1400 of that I am getting and I am higher risk. plus we plan on more babies who will also be nursed till they naturally wean (natural weaning age is 2.5 -4yrs)
I am hard on my body and lots of vits now that I don't eat as well are one way I can be good to myself and hopefully come out of this lean and healthy not skinny at any cost
I will see where my calcuim levels are for my 2 and 3 month check ups on tues - I have not seen my 2 month ones yet and just got my 3 months drawn on thurs.
I take one prenatal vit a day, 3000 mg of cal, my galbaldder pills and a joint vitiem b/c my knees are starting to ache a LOT from all I am doing at my current wieght - 299 grrrr still
what kind of cal did your doc give you - mine gave me cal carbiate and when I asked told me "yeah it is not great for you but it is all the pharmacy has - you can buy citracal if you like" so I do
