Topic: RE: POLL: How much have you lost?
I'm always so ashamed to answer this question. I'm 5'5, my preop wt was 247lbs. I am stuck at 180lbs (have been for a long time) Total wt loss 67lbs. I will be 1 yr out on the 1st. I feel like a total failure! I wear a pretty solid 14 clothes. I work out daily. I do have a problem with grazing some days and don't dump from sugar. (wish i didnt know that!) I am bound and determined to get another 20-30lbs off. Unfortunately I will be having a bilateral mastectomy on the 15th of this month so I will lose some wt there as I have very large breasts. Not quite the way I want to lose weight tho! You all have done so fantastic!! Keep up the good work!

Hi all, This is all normal we are going through. After the 6 mo. mark it does slow down. But I look at it this way as long as we maintain or at least lose something that is great. My surgeon tells me by the time we all hit the 2 year mark we would have lost all the weight, then it is maintaining it. I hear from alot of people at my support meetings that about 12-15 mos out you start to drop alot again. I have been losing, but stalled now due to no exercise just had gall bladder & hernia repair 3wks ago, I have another 3 wks to go before the green light is given to exercise again. I started at 254lbs, now 156lbs. 2lbs. to go to hit Century Club 16lbs until goal. I can and will do it!!!! I went from size 20 to a 10, from 2xl shirts to mediums.WooHOO!!!! Good luck all, just start the basics again, I had to after this surgery and it has shrunk my pouch again, which helps. Lynnd

i started at 277 and now weigh 154, down 123 lbs. total. that's according to my home scale though, i have noticed with all the doc visits and tests lately that my home scale is 4 lbs off from the clinic scale, 9 lbs. off from my surgeon's scale, and 10 lbs. off from my gastroenterologist's scale. GRR! (seems like the further i have to drive to the doc, the heavier i weigh in, hehe) at home i weigh in my nightgown first thing in the morning at home, but i don't see how clothes, shoes, water, vitamins, and breakfast can add up to a 10 lb. difference! besides, my scale read the same as my surgeon's in the beginning. according to my home scale, i have 4 lbs. to my personal goal. my surgeon listed my "ideal weight" in my chart as 137 though (i'm 5'7.5"), but i thought it was unrealistic. i've been sick for the last month and lost 6 lbs. this week. it kinda scares me b/c i lost 6 lbs. in the entire month of december! i haven't been exercising or doing much of anything either. i guess i'm just plain ol' sick. if i lose down to my ideal weight, i won't complain, i just wasn't expecting to. i'm still a (regular) size 14 and wouldn't mind seeing some 12's or even 8's, hehe. still, 14 is way better than 26/28!!

Topic: RE: Becoming a popaholic again......
i've always thought that sodas and diet sodas made w/aspartame are not very good for you. i had my first real soda in 10 months just yesterday, my hubby poured me a little cup of coke zero. (splenda sweetened) it was quite good, i never liked real coke b/c it was too sweet and left a film on my teeth, and diet coke had a chemical aftertaste, but the zero is pretty good. i am definitely sticking to water as my main source of hydration though, i don't want to get back on the bandwagon. i recently quit smoking and last time i quit (pre-op), i turned into a soda junkie and gained 40 lbs. my husband is a popaholic though, and as a compromise he has switched to only splenda sweetened drinks. (diet RC, diet rite white grape, coke zero, etc.) i'm not saying that splenda is harmless, but i think it's the lesser of the evils as far as artificial sweeteners go, hehe. i do have one guilty pleasure though--diet rockstar energy drinks. they're splenda sweetened and "lightly carbonated" (about half as fizzy as a regular soda) so i've been drinking them for a while. it's not a daily habit though--sometimes i drink them on weekends as a pick-me-up since we usually stay up later. while there is a lot of caffeine in them, they also have good stuff like B vitamins, vitamin C, and milk thistle extract, which is good for liver function.
