Topic: Liquid diet to kickstart weight loss?
I was wondering has anyone else ever did a few days of liquids, protiens to kickstart your weight loss when it has slowed down? I started doing just protien shakes and liquids 4 days ago and have lost 10 pounds. My surgeon recommends doing it for 5-7 days. So far I feel great, not even really hungry. Of course, in place of a meal I am doing a protien shake. I drink mine hot with splenda, tastes just like hot chocolate. I am seriously thinking of continuing this a few days past that 5-7 day mark. I have heard of people doing liquid diets for 14 days before a lap surgery. I had open so I didn't do liquids before my surgery. What do u all think? As long as I am feeling good, energized, it shouldn't hurt anything, right? Ange 313-165-150? P.S. I am still taking my prisolec, vitamins, calcium, iron, and supplements (zinc and biotin for my hair loss, my surgeon knows I take zinc and biotin, I always ask before starting any new meds of any kind.)

Hi Folks! For what it's worth lots of folks are hitting this bump in the road. I think the big mistake alot of us make is that we are not eating enough. Having things like protien shakes and bars instead of actual meals tends to starve your body and it goes into slow mode as far as losing weight. Was also stuck for about a month, then got back on track. Remember, at this stage of the "Journey" we are not going to be losing like we did when we first started. The fact that some of us are replacing the fat we had in our bodies with lean muscle also complicates things. If your not losing weight, but your clothes are still falling off you then you know something positive is happening. I see this time of our "Journey" as a bit of a trap that makes us feel like we are failing and may just drive us to find solice in things like food. Don't let it happen, just keep your eye on the ball and off the scale! You know when you are eating right by now so stick to it. If you slip, then just dust yourself off and get back on track. This is not a race, we all lose differently so just keep up the good work as we all get to our goal in good time! Be Well, Julio

Topic: RE: Becoming a popaholic again......
Trisha, I would highly recommend you quit the pop, diet or otherwise. I started to drink some sugared pop (1 A&W root beer here and there) and my dietician quickly put the nix on that ... I think I just wanted to try it. I was addicted to Coke and quit it and caffeine nearly 3 years ago (long b4 my WLS). Sugared pop + caffeine + me = no good! I will only speak for myself, I think I wanted to feel like a normie and go back to "trying" things I used to do or whatever. Well, I'm not normal, normal people don't obsess about their next meal. I have had to find other things to do to make up for this HUGE void in my life. It hasn't been easy but one day at a time I can. WLS is a tool, and that is all. I can, and will go back to where I was if I don't use this tool right. One thing someone in a support group, I think, had said re pop. The reason they don't want you drinking it is partly due to the carbonation. Someone said to put a balloon (without air in it of course) over the cover of a pop bottle and watch what it does. This is what it does to our stomach. Good luck to you.

Topic: Struggling
My anniversary is coming on March 15...I would love to be down another 20 pounds, but I am going through that struggle of eating the wrong things. I mean it's nothing like it used to be, but I am getting nervous. Any suggestions? I am a college student who is around crappy food all of the time...can anybody suggest what I should do about that also? Thanks, Robbe

I have lost 7 pounds in the last two months and I agree that it is stressful and that I am testing the food waters too much. I am doing the same as all of you and trying to get back to basics. I am continuing to exercise, but that doesn't seem to making me lose weight like in the past. I think that I am getting in about 1500 calories a day, which seems like too much (don't slam me!) but my support group leader says that amount is fine because of the exercising. I am thinking about going down to about 1100 regardless. I don't want to start gaining, and l'd like to keep losing. It is reassuring to know that other Marchers are struggling with me. At least I feel normal. Becky

I think all of us from this time period are in the same boat---weight loss slowing down---Trying new foods--testing the waters---almost seems like I am eating normal again---but just not as much. Sometimes it depresses me and makes me long for the early preop days---Its actually scary---I don't eat the sugar--or have stay clear of it so far---ate too many sugar alcohols the other day and didn't feel good. I think like everyone says --back to basics---is the thing that will help the most. This is also scary cause our bodies---are coming down to a more considered normal weight---I am really nervous my body will say its time to stop--when I don't want to---I have squeaked by and lost 8 lbs each month the last two months---down from the 11 or 13 lbs a month early on. I still want to lose another 20-30 before any plastics---Can cause a lot of stress! We just got to keep plugging at it--I am sure you all agree! Lets keep it rolling if we can---Hit the basics again before we test any more new and wonderful foods! Lisa
