Angel,
We all have weird days every now and again. Like I said, we're not doing this to judge each other, it's just an additional tool. I wish I could say I wasn't hungry, I'm PMS and want to do nothing but eat all day long!!

Topic: on 1 year anniversary was back in hospital
just wanted everyone to beware and be careful, on my one year anniversary to the day i was taken to emergency room with horrible stomach pains.... perfieated ulcer. never even knew i had one, almost died, had to get 2 pints of blood and am finally slowly getting around a lil bit, so much for having my surgery laproscopic... now i have a scar straight down the center of my abdomen, but to save my life... worth every last one of the 27 staples. i believe the ulcer was caused by me taking ibuprofin, because thats the only thing that i have done that i wasnt supposed to.... so please when they say ONLY take tylenol.... listen so maybe you wont have to go through what i went through... but all in all id still have the gastric again, im down about 147 pounds and now trying to be able to maintain my weight or possibly gain a few pounds. hope all are doing well.... keep up the great work!!!
Topic: What Did/Will You Eat Today?
Hi everyone - sorry I didn't get this started yesterday but I was in an all day training away from my computer. So, here's what we do, list what we have already and /or what we will eat today. It's a way of keeping ourselves on track with our individual programs and maybe get some ideas of new/different things to eat. No one is to judge what anyone else has reported eating - food Nazi's will not be tolerated. I mean this to be an additional positive reinforcement tool for us to use on our journeys. Everyone can play - pre-op as well as post-op, there will be no discrimination allowed. So here goes:
I only track protein as it's what my surgeon instructed but I do keep everything as low fat/fat free as possible and low carb. I do NSA or sugar free as much as possible too but have trouble tolerating sugar alcohols so I have to be careful.
Breakfast - Carb Master Yogurt = 12g protein
Snack - Trail Mix (soy nuts/almonds/pepitas/sunflower seeds/raisins/cherries) = 16g protein
Lunch - leftover Pepper steak & green beans = 10g protein (?)
Snack - South Beach Hi Protein Cereal Bar = 10g protein
Dinner - homemade Lasagna (minus the noodles) = 10-15g protein (?)
Total protein = 63g (I'll probably do a protein shake or bar in the evening to boost that number as I need to try to get 80g per day)

Hi Terry,
You are the first "Therese" I've seen in awhile - and one who spells her nickname with a Y! My sister is a Therese & goes by "Terry." ANYWAY!
CONGRATULATIONS on your progress so far! You are so close to your goal - you will get there soon!
I'm almost a year out also (3/28) and am having a bout of kidney stones. No fun! I noticed you mentioned this also, and wanted to ask you about it as related to your WLS.
I have not received any clear info about calcium. I was honest & told the doc I had not been as diligent as I should about calcium supplements recommended post-op (I'd say 50% compliant). I've not had any bloodwork recently by which to judge, but I have had the stones, the oxalate type. WHich means I have too many oxalates, which means I *may* be calcium deficient since it's calcium that binds the oxalates & keeps them from piling up. I'm curious what type stones you had, and what recommendations you were given about continuing calcium supplements? Thanks if you have any info to share.

Topic: RE: GALLBLADDER.....whining
The gallbladder is in the right upper quadrant of your abdomen. My pain was like a squeezing all the way around the bottom of my ribs. It hurt so bad. It can also hurt in your right shoulder blade. You usually are nauseated and vomiting as well. Low back pain could be a bladder infection or something with your female parts.
Go to the dotor if it is getting worse.

Toni,
You have done amazingly well! But I truly understand. In January I hit the 100 lb mark and haven't lost more than 3 pounds more since then. I now weigh 133 and would like to weigh about 120-125. But, I know I'm going to get there. I sometimes think the slower you go, the less likely you are to gain weight quickly.
I'm going to try to have dinner soon with an OH friend in Hermitage. Do you want to join us?
We can keep it going!!

Topic: 1 year anniversary
Hi All,
Today is my 1 year anniversary. It has been an interesting year full of ups and downs and I thought I would give an update and share some thoughts.
I have lost 115 lbs from 285 to 170. My goal is 145 so I still have another 25 lbs to go but I am determined to get there by my birthday in June.
I have had a few complications along the way. I was pretty anemic about 4 months out and that seems to be rectified right now with iron supplements. I had a little bout of depression at the same time. I had an incisional hernia in October that needed repaired and I had about with kidney stones which the urologist seems to think is related to the WLS.
I don't dump on sugar but I try to avoid it as much as possible.
I am really bothered by my open rny scar. I didn't think I would be but I don't scar well
(I'm pale and of Celtic background) and mine is still very pink and thick. The skin thing bothers me as well. My arms and stomach definitely need some work after this journey is over.
Clothes - I've gone from a tight 24W to misses 12. Wow - I still can't believe I wear regular sizes. The clothes thing is a little more stressful than I would have imagined and more expensive!
I went back and read my profile and all the things I used to worry about are gone. Losing this weight has really lifted a great burden from my shoulders (although I've gotten a few new worries instead). I no longer worry about breaking chairs, sitting in airline seats or wondering what the person next to me is thinking. My health is better. My blood pressure problems are gone and I exercise with a personal trainer and actually enjoy it.
I am dating a man who is 36 (8 years younger than me) and am constantly amazed how often I get "hit on" now. I am the same person I was a year ago but for some reason (men are very visual I guess) the attention has certainly increased. I'm not complaining but mentally it is very hard to adjust.
The story is not over yet but I feel this was a positive move for me. It's not been easy but what is in life, no? I wish everyone the very best.
