1. Could you imagine at the time last year you would be where you are now? Absolutely not..had no idea!
2. What was greatest positive moment this year? negative movement. Greatest postive moment was getting into the size I am now.. This is the smallest I have ever been, and I haven't even stopped losing weight. Negative moment would of been the surgery and having the complication..but that seems so long ago
3. When didyou know you would be successful? I kinda always knew I would be. Losing the weight was ultimately always up to me. The surgery helped but I also was motivated beyond means to lose the weight. Without that motivation, I would have never done as well as I have.
4. What became your favorite food? Starbucks latte's and subway salads. I drink latte's twice a day and probably have subway 4 times a week now..
5. How did you set your weight loss goal? Did you reach it.. Well my doctor said 180. I'd like to get to at least 167 because that would put me at a normal BMI. I'm 193 right now so not quite to goal but I imagine I should reach the 167 by my 18 month anniversary. We shall see..

Topic: RE: 1 year out today
I hit my one year out too and have lost 100 pounds. I too was disappointed that I had not lost more. I keep reading where people have lost 150 and more pounds in the same time. Like you I have had no problems. I all of sudden thought what 100 pounds felt like and it does not seem like a small amount. I feel so good!!! I could stay this way forever and I would be OK. I can walk forever, tie my shoes, cross my legs and BEST of all shop in the regular section of the clothes store. OH and Dr Jawads forum has helped me too much. We are good Susan!!!!!

Topic: RE: Update on my plateaus and eating more/exercising less
Mary Ellen,
You make me tired just reading the exercise you do. I really admire your commitment and determination. I would love to get to that point of working out most days. I would say you are burning some serious calories there - good for you. Have you calculated how many calories you are actually burning. I know there are some calculators online that will help give you a total, then you can measure that against your food intake.
Keep us up to date on your progress in finding that magic formula.

Topic: Update on my plateaus and eating more/exercising less
For anyone who knows of my saga of recurring, endless plateaus and my possibly excessive exercise habits, this is the update from my first year anniversary appt today. Once again, it appears I'm not eating enough. That was the doctor's first comment when we discussed my plateaus and exercise and diet. Right now I've been eating about 1000 calories a day, 60-100g of protein, under 100g of carbs if possible (sometimes I go a bit over that). I exercise 5-6 days a week, now run 2.5 miles at a time at 4.5 mph, also do the elliptical for 45-60 min a few times a week, lift weights for 30 min 3x a week and also do the bike a couple times a week. I also walk my dog 2 miles a day most days. So, I'm not eating enough to keep up with working full time and all this exercise. I'm going to just experiment now with calories and protein and carbs and see if I can figure out my magic formula. I'll let anyone know if they're curious about what I discover.
Thanks for the support you have given me! It's been a brutal year for me.

Yeah, I am so excited. I was one year post op as of 3/16/2006. It is amazing to me how much things have changed in this past year. I went from 349 pounds to 167 pounds. I am now in the process of trying to get some skin removal surgeries approved. I have Dr. Coon to thank for saving my life.
Topic: RE: What Did/Will You Eat Today?
Toni,
Oh believe me I know..I'm already having problems with the B-12 and folic acid. I take the B-12 shot now and take extra folic acid. I'll take them when I get home. I may just be a little short on the calcium today. I need to just keep a stash at work. The vitamins are like the one thing I seem to have a hard time remembering. It frustrates me..but I am trying to be better about it.
