Topic: One year checkup and a nice little WOW moment
My wife and I went to see Dr. Kirkland for our 1-year (hers exactly, mine three weeks earlier) and he was very pleased. Our numbers were all good on our blood work and he cleared us to go see a plastic surgeon whenever we're ready (whether we ever will be ($$$) is another matter.)
So, I took my father to Penny's to get him a belt and I decided to try on a pair of 36 jeans.
They fit!
Given I wore size 56 pants one year and three weeks ago, and that I haven't worn 36 anything in nearly 30 years, was reason for a WOW!

Topic: At goal!!
When I was talking to my surgeon today and proudly announced that I had reached his goal. He told me that he wanted me to lose 80% of my excess body weight from when I started and that has been done!!
So I am at goal!!!
YAY!!!

I had to go to Dr. K earlier than my one year anniversary date because I started a new job this week. So far my new employer seems to have a great, very positive work environment. My one year visit to the doctor was actually 20 days before my surgery anniversary. So...my bloodwork came back excellent, cholesterol less than 140, triglycerides 48. I did set a record with the surgeon tho. I am his first bypass patient to lose MORE than 100% of my excess body weight. I lost like 106%-so he wants me to gain 12-15 pounds back. Definitely not something I would have ever thought a doctor would tell me, and definitely harder to do than I thought. I have maintained the same weight since December, but lost another pants size. I guess I am having trouble gaining the weight back because I like being a size 4. It is just amazing to me. This surgery has been so fabulous and all the people on OH have been so wonderful and supportive. Thank you all and good luck in your journeys.

Actually I feel great, I don't have any symptoms, he just thought I should be aware because of the one lab result.
Thanks for your support.

Topic: RE: My DR must be crazy....
It is weird that our doctors think we have lost enough. I feel relieved that my doctor is happy, but I am still motivated to lose 19 more pounds. How do you figure your % lost?
Your doing great! Congratulations!
Topic: RE: Heidi Sorber! Happy 1 YR Anniversary!!!
God bless you, Kathy! It's nice to share the date with you. I know you will reach your goal. I am shocked to be below mine! I had thought I would lose maybe 70% of my excess weight, but never dreamed I would lose it all. You will too! Keep me posted.

Good luck on your journey, BJ.
And to answer your questions:
1. Could you imagine at the time last year you would be where you are now? Not really. I hope to lose a lot of my excess weight, but to not only reach but pass my goal!
2. What was greatest positive moment this year? Seeing a co-worker who hadn't seen me since before the surgery. She spent about 15 minutes peppering me with questions and being stunned. negative movement.-having trouble with foods I never had trouble with before, and not being able to predict what foods will bother me when.
3. When didyou know you would be successful?-After our summer trip when I came home 10 pounds lighter. It was the first time I ever lost weight on vacation.
4. What became your favorite food?-Those 100 calorie packs of snacks. Already portioned out and just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth.
5. How did you set your weight loss goal? I took my lowest weight during my adult life and added 10 pounds for being 30 years older. Did you reach it-not only reached it, but much to be surprise, passed it!
Good luck on your journey! Be an inspiration to everyone.
