Topic: Help: Upper stomach pain
I had RNY March 2005 with a loss of 190 pounds. I am loving my new lease on life, but over the last month I have had increasing upper back/stomach pain. I thought it was due to a pulled muscle. But it is worse after I have gone to bed. I wake up shortly after going to sleep with gas-like spasms every night. I lie on one side or the other. The pain is worse on the left. Gallbladder is on the right? It does not seem to matter if I have eaten or not. Sometimes it hurts when my stomach is empty. Anything sound familiar to anyone?

Good luck with the surgeries. It sounds like you have a lot going on.
I had TT/BA/BL 11/2006. They tightened up my stomach muscles. It was pretty painful, but with meds I managed fine. I realize this is a lot more.
Let us know how things go.

Susie, thanks for the reply. Good luck with getting the regain off. I am up 3-4 pounds from my lowest. I struggle every day. Some days I do better than others. I have started writing down everything I eat. I have never been able to make myself do that before, but it seems to help. I have used fit-day a little, but right now I am just writing it down.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Interesting side effect! I've also heard that there is an increase in appendicitis and gall bladder problems after a big quick weight loss.
I had a ruptured gangrene appendix about 9 months after my surgery. Then last spring a friend at work had lost about 30 lbs. and had an appendix attack that resulted in surgery. While she was in the hospital, her nurse told her it often happens when you lose a lot of weight! Oh, well!!!! I'd do it again!
I hope you get along well with your female/plastic surgery!

Congratuations! I'm about where you are, but I've gone up on the weight. I've decided it's much harder to keep it off than going through the process of losing it! I've gone back to working out and am working through a "pouch test" this week. I would definitely do it again, though!

Hello all, I have great news...getting my tummy tuck/ skin removal done and I have bad news...the only reason I am getting it done is because I have to have 3 other procedures done and it is an open surgery so since they already have me open I get the tuck done.
Some of you may remember that I had to have a vaginal prolapse repair done 8 months after my by-pass. Well they fixed that great and everything was fine then back in Feb this year I noticed another bulge and had that heavy feeling in my lower ab and intercourse started to be very uncomfortable. I ignore it until a month or so ago when it started to really hurt. I now have a uteran prolapse and vaginal vault prolapse.
I went to my surgeon and I will have to have a hysterectomy (leaving ovaries), vaginal vault suspension and a TVT sling placement. Doesn't it all sound so fun!!! If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. Especially if you think you may have something like this going on the longer you wait the more extensive the repair work is and since it doesn't really HURT HURT we are prone to ignore it. Resulting in instead of 1 repair procedure --- 3 of them
I am suprised that we don't hear more about this on here as the surgeon says it is commen with extreme weightloss and multi-births. Or maybe I am just to out spoken and open with what goes on as a result from my by-pass surgery. I would like to make all ladies aware of it because it is a freaky kind of thing to have happen. All in all it is a minor complication but the surgery to fix it is not so easy and I will be down for 2 to 8 weeks.
My plastic surgeon Dr. Tim McGee will come in and open my up then Dr. Kim Coates will go in and do the pelvic repairs and then Dr. McGee will come back in do the tuck and sking removal and close me up. I am going to be in Round Rock Medical Center... I was there before with my abdominal adhesions and it is a really good hospital. I am hoping to just be in a day or 2 then go home but they haven't said anything about it yet.
Take care everyone!!!
love
Jeannie

Topic: 2 1/2 years today
It has been 2 1/2 years today. I am so thankful for this surgery. It has been quite a journey. I have had no real problems. My stom is a little too big and I may have it fixed some day. I have had a TT, BL, BA and need a revision. I will probably do that in January.
My Vit D level is a little low and bone density test is not great. I have been working on both. I had labs yesterday, so maybe the numbers will be a little better. I am to have another bone density test in October. I take lots of vits and supplements. Really I am a healthy 62 year old lady.
I weigh every day and write it down. I struggle with food and my weight goes up a little very easily. I have to work hard to keep the pounds off. I walk four miles a day about five days a week. I take spinning, power, pilates/yoga classes a couple of times a week.
Life is not easy, but it is a lot easier since I had surgery. I thank God every day for being able to have it. I ask him to help me keep off the pounds.
I hope all of you March 2005 people are doing as well as I am. Let's keep working our tools, eating right and exercising. To tell the truth, I fail LOTS of days, but I keep picking myself and going on.
Have a blessed day.

Topic: RE: anemia
Thanks for the reply. I struggle, too. I have come home from a week at the beach with all the seafood restaurants and no exercise. i weighed 136.8 yesterday, 134.2 this morning. My lowest weight was 125--I was only there about five minutes. I want to stay under 130 but would love to weigh 125. I am only 5'1" tall. I am trying to get back on track, but SUGAR keeps calling my name. My DH insist on keeping some around the house. Sometimes he keeps it hide from me--sometimes he does not.
I plan to get back to walking in the morning with a girlfriend. Hopefully I will make it to the gym, too. I do pretty good with protein drinks. We are having a dinner at our church tonight. I have fixed a layered salad with veggies and low calorie and low fat dressing. I plan to eat it mostly. I can only eat small meals, but I graze a lot.
We are coming up on our 2 1/2 year anniversies. I am thankful for the surgery every day, but I stay scared the pounds will come back. And they will if I do not work hard at keeping them off. I have an appointment with my surgeon in a few weeks for my 2 1/2 year checkup. I weighted 130 when I was there six months ago. I hope to get back to that before the appointment. I am tired of fighting the food battle, but what else can I do?
Good luck to you. I wish you the best. We have no choice but to keep working this program. Where do you live in CA? I have a daughter in San Diego.
Janice, hang in there. I am wishing you the best. Maybe we can encourage each other.
