Can we eat eggs?
Hey Friends,
I notice in my booklet from MUSC that I can add Egg Beaters (uncooked) to shakes and some other things like oatmeal and grits, but are we allowed to eat Egg Beater's cooked? If not, does anyone know why?
One of my favorite things to stir into all of my soups (and I am a soup junkie thank goodness) is a 1/4 cup of Egg Beater's while it is boiling to add extra protein, but I am not recalling whether or not we can do this.
I appreciate the help. I am finding that I am having trouble digesting many pureed foods the last few days and I don't want to limit myself to all liquids.
Here's another food question- I am thinking about some of the chilled soups- like cucumber soup, strawberry soup, cantaloup soup, vicchychoise- and I am wondering, are we restricted on any fruits? Is watermelon pureed okay? Or too much sugar? Would the tiny seeds from strawberries be a problem?
Now, that said, many of the chilled soups call for sour cream or half and half or heavy cream. Are we supposed to avoid these? Plain yogurt is fine, right?
I know these are all great questions for a nutritionist, but sometimes y'all have more personal experience and are easier to reach on a Sunday than a nutritionist.
Thanks so much!!!
Hugs,
Christine
Christine,
Everyones program is a little different depending on who thier surgeon was, this usually determines what they can eat.
My surgeons program had me on clear liquids for 2 wks. I know from Ms Dawns post' that MUSC allowed more than my program. So I'm sure someone will post soon and give you the 411.
You're right about the watermelon...too much sugar (darnit!!)
Do you have some recipes for chilled soups?...it's getting warmer, and they sound like they would be soooooo good. When you feel up to it it can you email some to me??

I ate scrambled eggs at around 2 weeks out and did fine. Now is different, I get sick just looking at them - don't know why the change.
My understanding from Dr. Byrne was that anything you could puree you could eat. The watermelon might be too much sugar but I don't think the other is.
Hope you are doing well.

Christine,
The first thing that I ate when I went to the pureed stage (which was 1 week out) was scrambled eggs (well, 1/2 of a medium egg was all that I could eat).
My doc was real funny about raw veggies, and the sugar content on fruits. In fact, now at most 3 months out, I haven't started eating raw veggies or many fruits. It is all that I can do to get the protein in!!!
But like the others have said, different docs have different programs, so follow what he says!!
Good luck on your journey!! God Bless.....
Hugs,
Dianne
Angela,
I have been wondering where you have been. Your before and after pictures are amazing. I am so impressed with your weight loss! I hope that your plastics are approved soon. I keep wavering on whether or not I need plastics-- well, not so much if I need them, more about whether or not I think we should put our limited funds towards them. I don't think our insurance would find it medically neccessary. I was looking at some old pictures of myself today, and I am surprised at how large I was. Somehow, I don't remember it. It is like looking at another person, not myself. Do you ever feel that way? Anyway, congratulations on all you have accomplished!

I'm still in the pureed stage and I have eaten an egg for breakfast for the past few days. I found that pureeing (sp?) a scrambled egg was really gross to me, but I cooked one over medium in some non stick spray and it was fine. The runny yolk made it easier to eat after it was pureed. I can eat the whole egg this way. (approx. 2 oz.)
Now, I'm not sure about putting egg beaters or eggs in soup. Sounds good though! I love egg drop soup! You'll have to let me know how that works out.
In my last meeting with the nutritionist we were told specifically NO watermelon (one of the other ladies was craving it.) Too much sugar and very little nutrition. She said to wait until we were much further out.
The only thing I can say about the sour cream and stuff is I think it may have too much fat in it. Our list is so restricted, if it isn't on there, we are not to eat it. I think we will be allowed the reduced fat and fat free versions eventually. Plain yogurt is ok (low fat and sugar free.)

Hi Becky, I do kind of feel that way. Its weird cause I don't really know how to explain it. I know I have lost alot of weight and I know I look alot different than I did. But, to me, my legs and butt are still kind of big, just not like they were. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with the results I have had and if they don't approve all my plastics that will be fine. I am proud of what I have been able to lose with this tool. Its been amazing. I wouldn't trade a minute of it and I can't wait to see what the future holds. The only thing I am sure my insurance will approve is the tummy tuck cause I do have a hernia there and keep a rash, sore in my belly button. They have pics and documentation of this. I am not concerned with how long they take to approve it, lol, I am happy! I have lost weight and I am happy as I am! Congrats to u as well, u look great!

Not supposed to eat eggs unless they are the consistency of applesauce.
Mush your eggs up, but they made me
I can eat hard boiled eggs, poached eggs, but not scrambled???
I think it has to do with the air that is put in them when you scramble them.
Try it and see, but make sure they are runny/mushy like applesauce, that is our only rule!!
Good Luck,
Deb
Lots of good advice, friends- Thanks!
I will call the nutritionist today and run some of these by her, too, and let you know what I'm allowed. I did make chilled cucumber soup yesterday, and it was really good. I added the nonfat dry milk to the milk portion of it, but then I was thinking that was really all there was for any nutrition in it, so I'm not sure if it was worth anything beyond satisfying my craving for cucumbers (my favorite).
When I get a chance, I will post some of the chilled pureed soup recipes. I am going to make the strawberry soup today.
Hugs,
Christine
