I CAN'T STOP LOSING WEIGHT!

To some this may sound like a great thing but I'm getting too skinny. My doctor and nutritionist have been great. They have me on a special diet, high calorie, certain techniques to get in more food etc. I find that the only way I can maintain my weight is eating all the wrong things. Lucky or unkucky I can eat anything sugar included. I was size 24 and I am now a size 6, I would probably be a size 4 with a tummy tuck. Oh and I'm 5"9. I still weigh 143 pounds but my goal was 15o. I had my surgery 8 months ago(3/30/05). I can't work out because when I do I lose even more. I'm eating everything that made me obese to keep me from strinking to nothing. Is there anyone out there that is going through this? If so how are you stabilizing your weight? How are you stopping this process. At this rate I will be 100 ponds by March.

Hope, I had this problem for a few months. I became so malnurished I had to go on disability for 5 weeks and had 2 stays in the hospital to reverse starvation. I was eating some- but it didn't stick. Drinking but still got dehyrated. I team of specialist worked on me and slowed the process- almost to slow. But I lose now as long as I stick with the food plan. What it took for me was the help of a bariatric endronologist. They specialize in complicated bariatric cases such as ours and have the training to test our various metobolic systems to see what is going on. This is an unusually highly specialized medical area. So I am not sure if there is one near you. I live in Charlotte, NC and saw Dr. Adam Spitz at Presbyterian Endocronolgy. He developed the bariatric program at NorthEast Medical Center and has done lots of research. He was able to adjust my metabolism, give direction to my nutritionist, run labs and was the only one to learn I could no longer metabolize birth control properly. That was cause serious complications for me. ANyway that may be a possibility worth checking into. Please be careful and keep in touch with your drs.

Thank you so much for your reply and information. I will ask my surgeon if he knows any doctors that specialize in the area you mentioned.

Hi Hope - I can't really offer you any suggestions or advice as I have the exact opposite problem and can't seem to lose no matter what I eat or how much I exercise, but I wanted to wish you well and I hope that your issues resolve quickly! Mary Ellen

Thanks, Janice. I don't want to hijack Hope's post as she has a real issue that I think some folks can relate to, but I'm doign ok. Turns out I was exercising too much and not eating enough and it stopped my losing almost totally. I'm back losing a pound or two a week, which is just fine by me. Having a 4 month long plateau that started when I was just 2 months out and eating 800 calories a day and in the gym for an hour a day at least, 6 days a week, was really rough on me mentally,b ut it seems to be resolving with my eating more (1200 calories a day, more if I can get them in) and exercising less. I know it's not common and everybody just assumes I'm not compliant, but I know better and I finally seem to have found an answer. Thanks for your concern. Now if we can only get some weight on Hope before she melts away completely! Keeping you in my thoughts, Hope. Mary Ellen

THANK YOU! I share your surgery date and am having the same problem. My goal weight was in the 150's, my ideal body weight at 5'8" being about 147...as of this morning I am at about 143 and a LOT of that is muscle. I increased my calories, which seems to have slowed the scale-but I have noticed that my jeans are looser in the waist, butt and thighs. (I am a child of the '80s, baggy jeans just aren't an option...lol). So even tho the scale is slowing, I still seem to be losing weight. I can't afford to go to the doctor, I don't have insurance any more and I am scared. Thank you for having the courage to post this, I am glad I am not alone. Good luck! I see we have alot in common except that I began at 275 pounds and like you Im now built like a little boy, no chest, rear end just kinda straight up an down as if I were 14 againd and I'm 40. I increased my calories and drank while eating so that I can eat more, tha tmight help you. I can only maintain my weight by eating high calorie usually not very healthy foods, and that's not what i want to do. If you don't mond me asking Becky do you have much loose skin. I don't and I'm shocked by that after loisng so much so quickly. My buttocks not too good and my upper thighs took a good hit.

No, I don't have much loose skin. At 38, a little sagginess is expected so I am not really worried about that. My butt looks a little strange, I am hoping some exercise will help that a bit. I too, am eating foods that aren't good for me to maintain 142-143. I think my hubby is disgusted by me now. good luck! Becky
