clothing size vs. weight

i'm getting kinda frustrated, at 167 lbs. i'm still in a size 16, whereas i see people around the same weight wearing much smaller sizes already. i know part of it is my body structure--my hip bones are sticking out so i know my pants sizes can't get too much smaller, but it's still frustrating. i have one pair of sz 14 jeans i can wear, but they're baggy fit. i'm pear shaped, so i'm a size smaller on top (longer tops still have to fit over my breeder hips though, so they end up being baggy). i know this will probably fuel my frustration, but i'm intensely curious, so if you guys don't mind, will you post your current weight, height, body type (i.e. apple, pear, hourglass) and size (or sizes)? i'm 167, 5'7.5, pear, 12/14 tops, 16 bottoms. michelle 277/167/150?

Hi Michelle. I am currently 223, 5'4", pear, 18-20 tops with stretch, 22-24 no stretch, bottoms 18-20 and some 22's. I can usually wear a 1x now but some 2x also. Terri

Hey Michelle, I understand the frustration about size. I am currently 163 lbs and getting back to being an hourglass shape. I was an apple for the last 20+ years but slowly, I'm getting my waist back. Currently, I'm getting into size 14 pants, but sometimes I need a 16, it just depends on how they're cut. Because my waist is still a little thicker, sometimes I have to go with the 16 to fit the waist but then the hips and butt are really baggy. Tops, I can do a 12-14. I just got new bras, I've needed them for months but kept putting it off. They are size 38DD, which is much improved from the 44DD that I was overflowing when I started this whole adventure. I can't believe you're so close to goal!! Keep up the good work. Toni 267/163/135ish

thanks. i guess we all have issues with clothing--no one piece of clothing will fit an apple, pear, hourglass...

Hi Michelle, Honey I feel your pain. I am all over the place size-wise. I'm 5'4" and started at 351, now 250. Still an apple shape. As for the bod, let us start with the features formerly known as "breasts." I have gone from a 48C to a 40B. That's FORTY-B. And B cups are even a little baggy & wrinkly at this point. Yall pray for me in this department! Pants, I'm wearing a 22 or 24, depending on the cut. And while on THIS topic, the cuts and styles in jeans drive me nuts! I can't do with any of that low rise stuff at all. Gotta have full rise "relaxed" fit. At least I can live without the stretch now,tho I still find it more comfy. I have tried on jeans and pants sized from 22 to 28 which all fit in some fashion or another. Crazy, man. Tops, I'm wearing 18-20 or XL, also known as 1X. Sometimes I need a 2X, again, varies widely by make, style & cut. I'm doing most of my shopping at thrift & consignment shops, but it sure did feel good to get one brand new pair of jeans THAT FIT! I'm only halfway to goal - let's see what the next year brings. Thanks for posting this thread! Kat C

40b's are so hard to find, i feel for you! i'm finally down to a 38b which makes it a lot easier. i could only find 40b's in catalogs or at lane bryant. good to hear i'm not the only one feeling weird about clothes, thanks!

You know, I actually DID find a good selection of 40B bras by BALI at a local department store (Parisian). Wacoal (?) also has some 40Bs. They are available online, but I was glad to have a chance to actually try them on in the store to see which styles worked for me. I currently have three 40B bras that FIT. Wahoo! Now that I know the styles and sizes that work I can order different colors online. If I keep losing in my boobs, this time next year I'll be sharing bras with my 12 year old niece who's in a 36A - unless she outgrows me before then which is highly possible

I'm 5'5" and weigh 170. I am in a size 10 jeans and a size medium shirt. I am pear shaped or possibly hourglass. My hip bones are definitely not sticking out. I can feel them, but they are under an inch or so of fat/skin. My waist is small compared to my hips, so I wear low-rise jeans. I think my frame size is medium. Take a friend clothes shopping with you. You may be buying bigger sizes because you think they fit, but a friend can point out to you why you need a smaller size. I can see differences in body shapes putting you in a 12, but no way can you be a 16. You are too tall and thin for that. Becky

yeah, i think if it weren't for my hips, i might be able to wear a 12 in dresses or tops. it's funny, i went shopping yesterday for a dress for a xmas party tomorrow night (which i can't go to now b/c i have strep throat, ugh) and decided that i'd be brave and try on a 14. lo and behold it fit, i might have been able to get away with a 12 even if i wore a bodyshaper to hold in my panni. (small boobs + big hips + panni bulge = hard time finding dresses that fit) you're right though, i don't like things fitting too tightly and i might be choosing things too big just b/c i'm used to wanting to hide myself. i'll have to take your advice and take a friend w/me sometime.
