As I read through the message board and see how well everyone is doing at this surgery I am in tears. I have even managed to fail at this. I had my surgery 3/8/05 and have only managed to lose about 90 pounds. The scale goes up and down I don't feel I have been a real success since 6 months out. I have now started listening to that voice that says who cares....eat that cake, fast food, whatever you want it doesn't matter. But it does TO ME!! I was so encouraged going into this surgery and now I can't even get to the century club approaching 9 mos. out every single pound is a struggle. Do I need to starve myself? Everyone else seems to be passing me like a speeding bullet. Oh well enough of this pity party for one. Thanks for reading.

Hi, Sorry that you are feeling so down- you really are not slow. I had surgery at 324 and today I am around 223 so that is just 101 down for me and I have only lost about 4 pounds in the last month or so. I am feeling down on myself too but we need to remember that the more we loose, the less we have to loose and it will get slower and slower. Add some exercise and see if that helps... Terri

I checked out your profile and you are doing just what you should. Congrats on the exercising. I hope it is still going well. You were in a 30/32 and now you are in a size 16. Your clothing size is half of what it used to be. That's cool. Also, for me, around size 16, I stopped losing weight as quickly, but I started dropping sizes quickly. Our bodies are so weird - try and let go of the scale (although I can't) and watch your clothing sizes. I hope you feel better soon. Becky

I agree with the other posters, I think you're doing great! Not everyone loses more than a hundred pounds in 5 or 6 months. I was all bummed out about my 75lbs or so at my 6 month appt with my surgeon and he was thrilled with my loss and said it's a typical and normal loss, and that I was doing just as I should be doing. We are more "normal" with our losses than those who, for whatever reason, lose tons quickly. I am now just trying to keep my eye on the ultimate goal, which is to get to a healthy weight. If/when I get there, that will be what's important to me, not how fast I got there. For whatever reason, in spite of eating right and exercising my ass off, I hit a 4 month plateau when I was 2 months out of surgery. Really knocked my head for a loop, let me tell you. And I lose in fits and spurts, nothing gradual or even. Seems I lose like 10lbs in about 2 days when I lose it. We are all so very different in how we lose. I wish you continued success! Mary Ellen

Dear Highly, Everyone loses at a different rate. I think it depends on your starting weight as well as many other factors. You have done wonderfully. Please keep your head high and smile as you pat yourself on the back. Try not to worry so much about the fluctuations in the scale and live! You are a success! Congratulations! Jean

If you suck at weightloss I should just go shoot myself!! I have only lost 64lbs since 3/1/05. I'd take your 90lbs anyday!

I feel really bad for you that you feel the way you do. I don't think you're a failure at all. You have lost 90 lbs! That in and of it's self is fantastic. You know that's almost 100lbs? You're only 10 bs away and it will come off if you are still obese. I have lost 111 lbs now and am still considered obese but not morbidly obese. I'm almost just overweight, or is that chubby? Anyways, it's been soooo long since probably you last seen this weight that you are now just be happy and think that it's 90lbs gone forever. Please don't sabotage yourself. Just keep chugging away. I myself have been at a plateau for about 1 and a half months now but sister believe me when I say I will not give up. I absolutely love the new me. Take care and my heart and prayers go out to you to find peace within yourself. Deborah W.
