Hi Therese See that you are doing well except for that hernia.I had my hernia 3months after my surgery.Believe me it hurt like hell.Make a long story short, had stomach pain my off and on for 2month before didn't paid it any mind.A week before going back to work it got worse vomiting all over the place.Went to the ER find out I had 2 hernias and had hernia repair the next day.Felt so much better after sugery like a million bucks.Hope everything go well with you. How do you know you have a hernia? Were you vomiting or in pain? What is the pain like? Heidi

Heidi, I have a lump about the size of a quarter about 2 inches from the top of my incision. When I push on it it goes"back in". I don't know if I am describing it well. It only hurts a little bit when you manipulate it. I have had no vomiting or anything but the doc said it could get worse if I don't get it repaired. Terry

Listen to your doctor. If it gets strangled in the weak point of your incision and the blood supply gets cut off, you could have that part of your intestine die. I could happen while you are sleeping and not even aware of it. If the "strangled" gut slips back in the body, it can cause gangrene or an infection. If that part of the intestine dies, you'd probably have to have a colostomy till the repaired intestine heals after the "dead" area is cut out. HAVE IT FIXED ASAP. I'm a nurse. Having the hernia repaired is a far cry from the infection, pain and life threatening catastrophe of putting off a simple hernia repair. I have a few hernias that I think came on shortly after surgery. I noticed the first 6 weeks I was unable to lie on my side like other wls patients do. Then I kept having this feeling like when you are on a ride at cedar pointe and it drops down suddenly you get that feeling in your stomach ,I have that off and on. After I eat an uncomfortable feeling like pressure is in the abdomen and the upper part of my stomach extends outward where the hernias are,I wear my binder at night to help with the heavy feeling in my abdomen an a coresset during the day, but other wise they arent too bad. I will be getting surgery when I am more at my goal weight so I can get the hernias repaired and a TT at the same time.

Well this is probably a terrible comment..because I really dont want to end up with a hernia because I hear they are no fun..but my surgeon said if I would end up with a hernia that my insurance would cover atummy tuck!! Isnt that terrible to think about??!! Good luck with your situation Terry..hope everything goes well Patti
