Hi all! I just passed 5 months and was wondering if my fellow Marchers are still drinking protein shakes. I am down 76 since surgery and 30 before. The loss has slowed and I was thinking maybe I should drop the shakes since I am eating pretty much anything now, and maybe am getting enough protein.

I was on 3 protein drinks a day and my doc cut me down to 2 She said if I felt like I needed the 3rd then I should take it. Well I went to 2 and my weightloss stalled out big time. I went back over what I was doing before the stall and nothing had changed except the shakes. I did notice I felt worse without the shake so I started it up again. I had cut out the first one of the morning and replaced the fluids with defac coffee. So I cut the coffee and took on the shake again. In 2 days I was out of the stall and losing again at 3 lbs a week. I also felt much better. So I am keeping my shakes.

Hi Cathy. Congrats on your weight loss. You and I had surgery the same day. I still drink a protein shake every morning. It's one way I have of making sure I am getting enough protein every day. When you think about the other protein sources you can have for breakfast, it's a good way of getting over half your protein out of the way for the day. Cereal doesn't really have much protein, even the ones that claim to be high protein, and eggs and I don't mix.

I too continue to have at least 1 protein drink daily and if I am feeling a little run down I will have 2. I too do it to be sure I am getting my daily needed proein.

Hi Cathy, I also had my surgery on 3/28! I had a checkup recently and asked my surgeon how long I would need to use protein supplements. I am able to eat a little more now, and told him I felt I could get my 60g in without supplements some days. He told me that by about nine months, I should be able to get my 60g of protein a day without shakes. For now I use them as breakfast (I have never been a big breakfast eater), or sometimes in the evening when I have been short on protein that day. I look forward to not having to rely on them! Though I will probably always keep them around for a quick meal or for when I travel. Congrats on your weight loss! Kat C

Well I'm one of those oddballs. I never did the protein shake thing. My nutritionist just told me to eat high protein meals and leave it at that. That's exactly what I've been doing. I'm down 96lbs now and it has slowed some in the last month but i am still losing about 12lbs a month. None of my blood work or anything has come back abnormal either. Kerri

It is hard to get in enough protein without them. Especially if you really stick to the size of meals that Dr.s suggest. So, for now, I'm sticking with that breakfast drink. Haven't been able to stomach the powders since the second week from surgery so I have a daily Isopure (premixed). It is a little sweet but the grape is tolerable and 40 grams of protein for 160 calories and 0 carbs can't be beat. Alison

Hi fellow Marchers! I am drinking 2-3 protein drinks a day. I wouldn't get in enough protein otherwise! I think with as little as we eat that supplements (especially protein) are needed to be healthy! Keep up the good work everyone!! Meg

Thanks for your input. I don't know what I was thinking. I would never get enough protein without the shakes yet. And they are easy for breakfast. So I stocked up while the Whey is on sale this week. thanks again and congrats on your progress everyone. Cath
