Finally down fifty pounds!

I had my RNY 3/22/05 and have been losing very, very slowly. I finally made it to fifty pounds since surgery. My top weight was 284 and I dieted down to 259 on the day of surgery. Total loss 75 pounds! I am now 209 and no longer morbidly obese, just obese. As I only lose one pound per week, I hope to make one underland in October. Slow as a tortoise but hopefully, I will get there eventually. Are there any other slow pokes out there? Jan B

I had my surgery on 3/14/05. As of today, I've lost 63 lbs. I started at 238 and weighed 175 this morning. It's been really slow the last few months - a few lbs each month. I just keep plodding along, thinking it's better than gaining and, at least, the scale is going down some! Kathy M Lap 3/14/05 5'2" 238/175/???

Thank you for the reply. Hearing about 100 pound losses gets me a bit down. I know many have more weight to lose than me and will lose faster, so I need to focus on how much better I can more than before, Jan B

Hi Jan & other Marchers! I too am pokey and I too get depressed when I hear about how fast others are losing and here I am but one thing I have learned after my 5 week plateau is that my body is trying hard to hang on to all this fat! It has had it for years! After my 5 week plateau I lost 10 lbs in 4 days. What a shock as I have never dropped a huge chunk like that since the early days of surgery. We'll all get there and it sure is nice to know that we are not alone in this. Think how far we have come from where we started. I saw my PCP yesterday and he was amazed at how different I look. He cannot believe the changes in me and was so thrilled. He said it is better for us to lose slowly because it gives the skin a chance to catch up with the loss. Keep up the good work everyone. I am now down 75 lbs. I actually gained weight after surgery and weighed in at 285 when I first got on the scales. Depressing way to start but the journey has been wonderful even if it is slow! Roxi

Jan I have to admit my story is so darn close to yours that I know exactly where you are comming from! My highest weight was 273... the day of surgery (March 29th) I weighed 243. my total loss as of this morning is 82 lbs. since surgery I have lost 51 lbs. I some times feel that I should be loosing faster, but its still comming off...slowly but surely! Nancy 273/192/???
