Why Bothers
Does any one drink Why Bothers?..Which is a decaffinated sugar free fat free Coffee??...I buy a 32 ounce decaff, non fat, sugar free vanilla Latte iced every morning....I always drink the whole thing....In about an hour and a half...Then later, someone else always brings me in a 24 ounce same Why Bother.....Some times on way home I buy another 24 ounce..My dietician said as long as it is non fat, sugar free and decaff. It counts as water..This is dietician at my surgeons office....So I am getting in more than 60 ounce of liquids, because I also get in a bottle or two of water also....I have lost 63 pounds since surgery, but was on 2 major plateaus...I lost 7 pounds 2 weeks ago in 1 week...But only 2 last week..I did get married on Saturday July 30th.Then he left for China on Monday..So could be why I didn't lose alot last week..I also work with a trainer twice a week....Does anyone else drink sooo much coffee and is your weight loss as good as you would have expected?..My surgeon told me 20 pounds a month...I am 4 and a half months out and only down 63 pounds..I don't want to fail.....What do you think?...Should I slow down on my WHY BOTHERS?....
I don't see that you're having any serious problems, Beverly. We all plateau at one point or another, and it can be frustrating, but you're doing pretty well.
I'd listen to your dietician on this one. I mean, anything you drink (that's decaf, non-fat and sugar-free) that helps you get to your water goal daily can't hurt. Double check your protein intake, too. You should be at a minimum of 64g (and, at this point, 70-80g wouldn't hurt). Up to a point, calories do count, and I'd try to stay under 1000 c a day, for now.
Try using fitday.com as a resource for tracking your food and exercise. It's free, you can enter nutrition labels from anything you eat, you can customize it to track protein, calories and water, and since my wife and I started using it, two months ago, we have lost a humongous amount of weight.
Hope it helps. Don't be discouraged!

Hi Beverly, congrats on your wedding. You and i are sisters in a way. we both had wls on the 21st of march. i have also hit a stump. i am almost 70lbs less. but in the last two weeks i have not lost anything. i am so frustrated. and thanks for letting us know about the coffee. i really miss coffee. if i can drink a decaff, non fat, sugar free i think it will kill my craving. i also did not know that it was like drinking eater since i do not think i drink enough. thanks and talk to you soon. much love to you.
Thank you everyone for your support...I have also remembered that my dietician said that the amounts of milk in my coffees is good calcium and makes up for possible extra caolorie intake....My husband came home from China on Friday and might go back next month..I am jealous..lol....I would love to go,but flights are expensive there...Thanks again everyone...Love Beverly
I had my surgery the same day also, I'm down 80lbs and want to get down to 170 but I've plateued right now but I'm not going to let it get me down. For the last month I've been drinking regular coffee. I use non diary creamer and splenda. I find I can drink 2 cups and that's it then my tummy will start to hurt. I had to start drinking the caffein so I wouldn't fall asleep driving back and forth from work. I have a 1 hour commute both ways so that was the only thing I could think of that wasn't carbonated, besides ice tea, that could give me a little boost. I don't think this would contribute to my plateau though??? I think I do need to get in more protein. I really don't think I'm getting enough even though the Doc says all my labs are great.
Congratulations on your wedding and may you always be in the honeymoon stage.

Wow, 20 lbs a month sounds like a lot to me. My surgeon told me to expect about 10 per month, after the first two months anyway. 63 lbs is good progress and don't compare yourself to anyone else cause we're all different. I haven't had a taste for coffee since surgery, used to drink it regularly before.
You might just experiment, decrease the coffee and increase the water for a week or two and see if it makes a difference. Also, look at the carbs, does the coffee drink have a lot of them? That could be a culprit.
Good luck,
Toni
