I thought I had ulcers because I had a lot of pain for several months, but I believe now it was spasms from medication I was taking. It took about 2 weeks for the pain to stop after I stopped my medication, but I'm pain free now. Hope it's not just a coincidence. And hoping the pain won't come back. The only relief I could get from the pain was Rolaids with gas relief (simethicane (sp).) Rolaids made the pain go away almost instantly. Huggs, Heidi

According to WebMD, which I use, these are the most common symptoms of an ulcer: -A burning, aching, gnawing pain between the navel and the breastbone. The pain sometimes extends to the back. -Abdominal pain that can last from a few minutes to a few hours and usually goes away for a while after taking an antacid or acid reducer. -Weeks of pain that comes and goes and may alternate with pain-free periods. -Loss of appetite and weight loss. -Bloating or nausea after eating. -Vomiting after meals. -Black, tarlike stools or stools containing dark red blood if the ulcer is bleeding.

It hurts when your pouch is empty and is relieved only when you put food in it. The pain can wake you up early in the morning and only go away with food or strong pain relievers (percoset, vicodin, lortab). Have your surgeon prescribe you CARAFATE and take that several times daily when pouch is empty along with 2 prilosec a day (that is OTC). That will help if that is what you have. Trisha
