STILL STUCK!!1
HI! I AM NOT A BIG POSTER ON THE BOARDS BUT I DO VALUE THE INFORMATION I GET. I HAVE NOT LOST ANY WEIGHT SINCE JUNE 1ST. I ONLY DO PROTEIN SHAKES ONCE A WEEK. I HAVE WENT BACK TO ALOT OF MY OLD HABITS LIKE EATING WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS EATING AND SNACKING. I TRY TO SNACK ON NUTS AND THINGS WITH HIGHER PROTEINS BUT I FEEL AS IF I AM FAILING MISERABLY. I STILL DO NOT TOLERATE MORE THAN 2 BITES OF MEAT WHICH MEANS I SHOULD BE DOING MORE BARS AND SHAKES I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO MOTIVATE MYSELF WHEN I WOULD RATHER EAT SALAD WITH REAL DRESSING OR FRUIT. ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? I AM NOW 170LBS AND INA SIZE 12. I NEED TO LOSE 40 MORE LBS FOR MY HEIGHT AND DO NOT WANT TO GIVE UP SO EASILY. HELP PLEASE!!!!
it sounds like you already know what you need to do. if you can't tolerate meat, you definitely need to be getting in protein some other way. i personally love the nectar protein drinks, they are more like a fruit juice than a thick shake. an 8 oz serving has 24g of protein. i also love the acheivone latte protein drinks, they're like a starbucks bottled frappuccino but with 20g of protein, i have one in the morning instead of coffee. they're a little expensive, but when you think of the price of bottled frappuccinos, they're actually about the same but you get protein and vitamins too. i get them both at bariatriceating.com, they offer sample packets so you can try different kinds and see what you like best. you might also want to try vegetarian stuff like boca burgers, meatless riblets, etc. they have soy protein in them, sometimes more protein than the real meat version would have! i had to do that when i was having gallbladder trouble, as regular meat would make me sick. also, make sure you're getting in enough water, i've noticed that my weight loss slows or plateaus when i slack off on water. when we metabolize fat, our bodies need extra water to help flu**** from our system.

Hi Stephanie!!
No dont give up yet! Youve really done good with your weight loss! If you look back at some of the other posts it looks like alot of us have been in this rut at 4 months out...me included!! I have been at 64 lbs all month. I lost 2 lbs at the beginning of July and not much before then! I had to have someone hide my scales because I weigh myself daily!! I have upped my protein and water intake and have tried to cut back on the snacking. Im hoping that will help. Get that will power going again girl!! Youve come this far..dont give up! Start forcing that protien in more than a couple times a week. From everything I hear, that helps alot!
Good luck to you!
Patti
Stephanie,
I have a problem with wanting salads and veggies more than meat but I also snack on beef jerky and nuts (count this as one of 6 small meals) and I also love the Achieve one coffee drinks - I will have to try the nectar thing Michelle was talking about because that thick stuff makes me gag and if I thin it I have to drink more that I have room for.
Good luck!!
Terri
Oh Steph you dont want to give up. Remember why you did all this, because you were more than likely unhealthy miserable and just not happy with yourself. You have come too far to give in to them nasty old habits and letting food take control of you. You have to take control again you know this is not what you want to go back to where you were before and I know some people do end up going back to old habits and regain all their weight back. I pray everyday for the strength to keep control over food addiction because that is the last thing we want to happen. Salad is ok but be sure to eat or drink your protein. You have to get that protein in our muscles need it. I hope you seriosly take a look at what you are doing yes you may be eating bad things in small amounts but if you continue your portions will gradually increase. I will keep you in my thoughts and please keep posting. We are all in this togather and for the long haul. GOOD LUCK to you. YOU CAN DO IT. HUGS GOING YOUR WAY.
Don't give up! You've come to far for that. Make copies of your "before" pictures and stick one on the fridge and some inside the cabinet doors. Remember where you were and how far you've come.
Salad sounds sooooo wonderful. I keep trying periodically but raw vegetables are one of the few things I cannot tolerate. Raw veggies, milk, pasta and leftover meat-other than that I can tolerate everything, sadly even sugar. I found that out by accident but keep trying to tell myself I can't handle it.
You can do it!! We're all keeping our fingers crossed for you.
Oh, girl, don't let your brain get you down! I have just hit the 70 pound mark today, but have stuck for a couple of weeks (4 weeks at one wt.) a couple of times. You already know that losing and feeling better is so much better than anything you can eat! I have concentrated on eggs and low-fat cheese to help me with my proteins. (A friend of mine who had WLS once had protein deficiency and they had her eating eggs a lot to get better.) I personally haven't found a lot of shakes that I can stomach, but I enjoy getting cans of ground chicken meat (or ham or turkey) and using a boiled egg and low-fat mayo & a little low-fat cheese with some seasonings to make a chicken salad. I discovered wheat melba toast (either 0-1 g of fat) is great with it and I feel like I am having a deli sandwich. (Soft breads don't settle well for me.) Just stock up on the low-fat stuff or at least lower fat for snacking. There are plenty that are enjoyable without making you feel deprived of what you like. (Chex mix isn't too bad in small amounts for instance.) But, don't think you can't have something you really like from time to time either--or it's like being in the old dieting rut that would finally get the better of me and I would eat whatever! Determine that you will eat the healthier stuff most of the time, and every few days, allow yourself a half cup of whatever you want. This is working great for me and I find I am satisfied. I carry in Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones to work for lunch (and usually don't eat quite all of it), but many of these have pretty good protein contents, too, with good varieties. In regard to meats--you probably are doing so, but be sure they are moist and you chew til you pretty much can't chew them anymore. My body responds better to chicken and turkey than to beef now, but I have to chew a lot regardless. I this helps some. You know you can do this!
Holy Crap! You sound just like me! I just posted on this very topic! My surgery was a week after yours and I've been stuck since mid May, just a bit longer than you! I'm starting to lapse into bad old behaviors because I'm so damned depressed about this freaking plateau! I have an awful time with meat, I throw up at least 4x a week still, almost always meat related. But, unlike you, my WLS program freaks out if we use protein shakes or bars, so I'm just screwed. I gave my nutritionist and nurse practitioner access to my fitday account so they could see what I'm eating (I'm really anal about logging it all in, the good, the bad and the truly ugly) and the nurse went off about my eating half a bagel or half a muffin for breakfast on occasion. Geez, I can't hold down meat and she's getting mad cuz I ate something I could tolerate? You should hear what she said about the M&Ms...
Anyway, if you'd like an email buddy to stay in constant touch wtih about this stall, I volunteer! I just want to go through this with somebody who gets how utterly miseralbe and depressing and frustrating it is to plateau for more than half your time since surgery.
Good luck to you one way or the other. Hope it breaks for you soon!
