gallbladder already??

wondering how many of you guys have already had gallbladder troubles. i'm only 2.5 months out and my surgeon said my GB looked fine when he did my RNY. i recall seeing at least one person post about having to get theirs taken out so soon. i started having stabbing pains under my ribcage on the R this morning, it felt like I had a knife stuck in me and everytime i breathed, it hurt. i almost had to pull over on my way to work! i haven't eaten anything since then, i'm still sore but the stabbing pains have stopped. i also have a dull pain under my R shoulder blade. mainly i'm just curious, i've already found a person on another support group that had to get hers out at 3 months post-op, so i was just wondering how many of you guys had yours go bad this soon. if the pains keep up, i'm definitely going to the doc ASAP.

I had mine taken out during surgery but it was Trisha J that just had hers removed 3 months post op. If you scroll down on the March 2005 board you will see her. Maybe you could e-mail her directly to find out what kind of symtoms she had. I hope you feel better and hopefully it's not your gallbladder. Take care, Jean

Sounds like your GB...better get it checked. Fortunately I had mine out before surgery, and the surgeon I went to most of the time does it at the same time he does the RNY because of the high incidence of GB problems after the gastric bypass. D'Lynn 232/186

i kinda wish mine did, he only does it if the GB looks bad. :/ hopefully it's not, but all signs are pointing there. i saw my regular doc this afternoon b/c i had pain again after lunch, and i have a low-grade fever, my BP is up, and he felt around and agrees that it's probably my GB. i have to get an ultrasound in the morning.

That stinks Michelle. The surgeons should automatically take it out. I had mine out half a year prior to my weightloss surgery. Good luck. Becky

I wish my surgeon did, but he just said it looked OK and left it.

Michelle, I know how much that hurts- mine was removed prior to my rny so I got to suffer the pains for several weeks while we had tests run. The good news is, the pain ends right after they take out the gallbladder - you will be sore but nothing like the rny surgery. Hope you feel better soon. Terri

thanks. i've been told it's an outpatient deal and i should be back to work in a couple of days, but i still just don't want to have another surgery so soon! i had an ultrasound this morning, i should have the results back in the next couple of days. ::crosses fingers::

I would definitely talk to your doctor because it sounds like it is your gallbladder. I had to have mine taken out at the same time I had the gastric bypass surgery. I hope you get it taken care of soon. Keep us updated and good luck!! Bonnie
