RNY question

is a drainage tube required after RNY surgery like it is after a DS procedure?

I had a drainage tub after my LAP RNY for about a week. I have a pic of it on my profile. Huggs, Heidi

I had one but they took it out the day after sugery. They did the leak test and when that was fine the drain came out!

I had a drain too and it came out the morning I was discharged. It didn't hurt. Felt really strange as they pulled it out though. LOl like a worm coming out. Eileen

I didn't have a drainage tube. The only tube I had coming out of me was my cathider(sp).

I had lap RNY and did not have a drain.

I ended up with two. Had one after my first surgery and then I went in for a second surgery two days later and got another one. By the time I left the hospital, I still had one in, and they took it out a couple days later. It was fine, didn't hurt to have it removed. Kerri

I had a drain tube for 1 week after surgery. It did not hurt, but I was glad to get it taken out. I was amazed at the amount of drainage it removed from my abdomen, that was a good thing! Good Luck!

I had open RNY and no tubes or any problems what so ever.

My surgeon, as a rule, does not feel the need for drainage tubes. However, he had a little difficulty closing my stomach, so he put in a tube just to make sure and made me have a swallow test. Everything turned out to be fine and I had the tube for about a week.
