Has anyone experienced hair loss?

I am 12 weeks post surgery and am noticing that my hair is falling out when I comb it. Does anybody know what to do about this? Does it get better as I'm able to get more protein in? Millie 247/208

mine is starting to fall out as well, i have to clean out the shower drain every time i take a shower, and then more comes out when i comb it. i've noticed that it gets worse when i slack on protein. i also take biotin, which is supposed to help. i've been taking it since day 1 though, so i don't have anything to compare it to. but everything i've read directly links it to a lack of protein. i get in an average of 60-70 grams a day with food and supplemental drinks.

It does get better, a friend of mine had surgery three years ago. She had some hair loss, but it just thinned out some. It's all come back though, so it's nothing to worry about. Billie

I am 13 weeks post-op today and my hair has been falling out more in the last 2 weeks. I have very fine, bone straight hair that for some reason has always beenprone to falling out, though not going bald. I can't afford a wig so I hope this doesn't last too long! lol Alyson

I have noticed a little bit of hair loss myself... not too much to where I would worry about it though. As long as you keep on taking your vitamins, protein, and water I think you will be okay. I was also told that it is normal to have some hair loss around 3 months post op. If you are concerned I would talk to your doctor. Take care! Bonnie

Hi Milagros, Yes I have been losing lots of hair. In fact you can see my scalp. Not a prety sight. My hair falls out in the shower and when I comb/bru**** I was told this is normal. That due to the protein and the shock of the surgery itself with the ansethesia that it's going to happen. Good news though. I've had my aunt and uncle have this surgery both lost their hair, balding in some spots, but all of it came back. It came back thicker and even curly. And neither one of them ever had curly hair. So I'm hoping mine will come back thicker and curly since I normally have very fine thin straight hair. Deborah W.

It is the protein that causes it. It takes 3 months to reflect what you've been doing. Since it is three months since surgery, and we were all very protein deprived in the beginning, it is normal. If you've been hitting the mark in protein since, allow about three months from the point that you have and you should see the loss stop and hair beginning to return. But keep those protein grams coming! (BTW, since I experienced hair loss, like 20 years ago, I doubt much more protein will help, in my case)

I lost 9 inches of hair 2 months after surgery. I had a complication and couldn't do any protien for the first 3 weeks. I still have some hair loss but it has slowed way down. The protien is the key of course as everyone is saying. I do notice improvement when I am able to increase my protien intake. 278/219

I have been post op for 2 months 1/2. I am going through the same thing. They tell me if i drink more protein it will grow back. Don't worry. it will grow back.

I too have been losing hair, but I know it is all normal, etc... But let me tell you the hair on my legs and underarms is growing like mad! I have to cut that forest down every other day just about, before surgery I would have to about every other week! Is this happening to anyone else?
