If the only way you can have a BM is to take something medical (like Milk of Magnesia, etc.) then you need to contact your surgery. It is toxic and unhealthy to not have normal BM's on your own . Every now and then I have to take Milk of Magnesia (cherry flavor), but it's not all the time. Surgeon is aware of it. Contact your surgeon ASAP!!! Hugs, Trisha

I had surgery 3-21-05. i also have this problem. I have cut back on iron. I eat spinach which is high in iron and i eat alot of raisins and i have gone 3 times this week without taking anything to bring on the BM. Try it i also take stool softners daily and eat some prunes. they help too. I hope it helps. good luck.

Boy-o-Boy do I hear you on this one. I have had this problem since the first week after surgery. I was taking MOM, suppositories and 2 stool softeners a day. I didn't really get any relief until I started taking ducolax. That does the trick for me within 4 hours. I am still taking the stool softeners 2x a day and If I don't have a BM after 3 days, then I take the ducolax. I have been working with Nurse in my Dr's office. This is what they said I should do. I tried the candies too and they just aren't doing the trick for me. I'm hoping to find the right combinations of food that will keep me regular. This is no fun. I was doing a little better when I started eating salad, but then the last few days weren't good. I'm not doing good with my water and I know that affects this too, I'm working on that as well. -Good Luck Suzanne

try Kashi GoLean, fiber and protein in the same cereal. I have had constipation to the point that when I did go it caused a fissure. I just had the fissurectomy on June 2... and I gotta tell you I'm STILL in pain. It was worse than my WLS. One thing you may want to try is MiraLax or GlycoLax from your Doc. GlycoLax is crystals that are pretty much tasteless in Lemonade or Arizona Diet Tea. It doesn't cause "explosive" stuff to happen, it does help quite a bit. If you have insurance, you may want to consult with a specialist. They can help.
