conspation
Okay, so this might sound a little funny. Last night it took me 25 minutes to have a BM and I swear it was.... Well, I felt like I had just given birth. Scared the heck out of me. I've been taking 1tbsp of freshly ground flaxseed every morning for about 2 weeks and it seemed that all was working okay. Guess I was wrong. My doctor's assistant said that the 'Load' was probably impacted, that's why it was so BIG , and I should use a stool softener for awhile to get things back on track. If that doesn't work the doctor will write up a prescription for me. The doctor's assistant asked me if I had hemorrhoids, because I had a little blood, and I said "No.." so she says "Well, you probably do now." Even though it was a HORRIBLE experience and I hope it never happens again, I do have to look back and laugh a little. Otherwise I just might cry.

Oh man can I relate! Seems like once a week I just get terribly backed up. Somebody else joked about feeling like they gave birth - I had to laugh because last weekend I was joking that once I "delivered", I was going to have to name it! OK OK sorry if that's too gross.
Unfortunately, I have not figured out a good solution yet. I'm going to try the "blockbuster" recipe I saw posted in a reply to your post. I know for me that if I am at all short on water intake, I will have trouble. Also, if I eat lots of natural "constipators" I will have problems (nuts, cheeses). So I try to watch all that. I know it sounds like there is a Water Cult around here, where the answer to every problem is MORE WATER. But in this situation, too little water in the system makes for very hard, dense BMs, so the more water, the better.
Good luck & let us know how you are doing!

Amen I hear ya! I have this problem very badly. I usually wait about 4 days and then I have to use a suppository stick. I have been eating 1Tbl of wheat bran in my yogurt. That helped a little. I'm going to ask my PCP to prescribe a stool softener next week. Don't let it go it could cause some seriouse problems down the line.

this is gonna sound crazy, but i eat sugar-free candy when i get constipated. sugar alcohols have a laxative effect! i usually eat SF jelly bellys or SF reeses cups. it's a nice treat and serves it's purpose well! i've gotten to where i'll eat just a few SF jelly beans a day and they help keep me regular. i have a little bowl in my kitchen where i keep my vitamins, one bag lasts me like 2 weeks so i'm not overindulging or anything. they're a little chewier than regular jelly bellys but have the same great flavors.
I'm with you on this one. I eat an Odyssey Bar every day. Lots of maltitol, which has a laxative effect.
If I'm at industrial strength blockage (Courtney's twisted sense of humor is rubbing off), a stool softener usually takes care of that.
If that doesn't work, firecrackers are in abundance this time of year....
all I can say is Amen...I too have given birth several times in the past too months...I think I might even have the stretch marks to prove it.. ;)
Anyway, I've been trying to work on the fruit and I"ve taken the ducolex as well...
Water is the key and I'm failing miserably. It's something to work on...
Well, at least we are all trying to "push through" together
hahahaha---gotta love cheesy poop jokes!
