How much time to you spend eating per meal. I have had problems with strictures, but more often than not, after I eat I feel sick. Wondering if I am eating too fast. Just wondering about how long it takes you to eat a meal. Thanks for your responses. Sue

It is supposed to take you a half an hour to eat. But usually it takes me 20 mins. no matter how slow I eat.

I spend 30 minutes eating each meal. Not easy, I know, but I live alone, so I can work on the computer or read while eating. It slows things down.

It is supposed to take 20-30 minutes to eat but more often than not I am done within 15-20 minutes. It can make you feel sick if you eat faster than 20 minutes... which has definitely happened with me. I try and take a break in between each bite and that has been helping me! Bonnie

I seem to be a bit different. It can take me up to an hour. Most of the time I have to reheat my food. I eat extremely slowly and chew relentlously. If I am eating tomato soup, it doesn't take long at all, but if I am eating a salad or other type of more solid food, 45 minutes to an hour. Chris S.

It usually takes me 40 min to an hour to eat breakfast and lunch. Dinner can take even longer depending on what I have.

I'm supposed to spend at least 30 minutes, but depending on the food, I can eat as quickly as 15 minutes. Any less than that and I get sick. Usually I average closer to 30 minutes though. I think it's funny that they mention not eating in front of the TV--I get bored at the table and tend to eat faster than when I'm watching TV or on the computer.

Thanks to all of you for your replys. I was thinking about 30 minutes as well, but sometimes I'm only able to eat so little that it couldn't possibly take me that long not matter how slow I ate. Part of my trouble has been due to having strictures. Hopefully I had my last endoscopy yesterday (#4). Yeah!!! Thanks again to everyone.

Hi Suzy, How do you know you have strictures? Just curious. I thought I was having trouble with strictures and the nurse said I couldn't possibly have that problem until I was a year out. Well, she can't be right because I hear about strictures on this site all the time. I hope your endoscopy helps finally. Huggs, Heidi

Hi Heidi, I found out I had a stricture 3 weeks after my surgery when I suddenly couldn't keep anything down, including water. My surgeon said that I healed to well to fast which caused a narrowing in my stomach. As of Wednesday, I had my 4th Endoscopy and hopefully my last. The Dr. said he felt like it was now open and shouldn't continue to be a problem. My surgeon said that typically anyone who gets them, normally happens in the 1st few months, and usually resolves by the 3rd or 4th month. I would definitely recheck with your Dr. if you are having difficulty. I got dehydrated the 1st time extremely quickly and ended up in the hospital for 5 days! I was only in for 2 days when I had my surgery. I hope you don't have any stricture, but at least it you do, they CAN take care of it. Take care, Sue
