I am almost 2 months post op and i am curiose to know if i am losing enough weight / average weight loss per week. I have seen that people have lost 50 lbs in the first 2 months. I have only lost 40 ponuds. is that ok or am i not doing something right. or could the fact that I had a stricture for 3 weeks before it was taken care of and i could not eat nor drink adequetly. I am still trying to recoup from lack of noutrients. I have not had that big burst of energy everyone talks about. I still get tired after a few hours of being active. anyone have any advice.

40 lbs is great in 2 months!! The "AVERAGE" they say is 15 lbs 1st month and 10 pounds each month thereafter, so you are ahead of the game!! Some patients take longer to recouperate from being in hospital - especially if you had a stricture. Give yourself some time and before you know it you'll be bouncing with energy. Don't feel . Don't compare yourself with others. You are doing a great job. Would you have lost 40 lbs in 2 months if you did NOT have surgery? I know I wouldnt' have!! So chin up! Give yourself a pat on the back!! You are doing a great job!! Hugs, Trisha

You are doing great!! Everyone loses weight at a different pace- some more than others. Hang in there and know that it will all come off. Try not to focus on the number- even though I know it's hard. Take each day as it comes and I wish you much success on your journey Bonnie

Hi Heather, I was asking myself the same question the other day! I had surgery just a few days before you and I am down 43 lbs. I always think I am a slow loser too when I read the message board and see all the BIG losses and how others have lost 50+ lbs and here I am on my plateaus and feeling thankful to have 43! I have to remind myself to not compare and to just focus on me. Your weight loss is wonderful! I have never lost this much weight in 2 months before and then to know that it isn't coming back is another bonus. Just keep taking care of yourself and soon you will feel stronger and have more energy. I still get tired and I didn't have a stricture! Just take each day as it comes and it will improve before you know it. Roxi

As everyone says, you are doing fine. I actually have only lost 28 pounds in a little over 2 months. With the 25 I lost in the 2 months before surgery, I've lost 43 pounds in total. Remember a couple of facts: men generally lose weight much faster than women and heavier people will lose weight faster. As far as the energy goes, I mostly hear comments about having a great deal of energy from people who are farther away from surgery than us. People who are 18months out + really talk a lot about it. You've just had major surgery, so don't expect lots of energy for a while.

Thanks for all the replies and encouragement. I am very proud of the weight I have lost. I never would have gotten this far without wls. With the weight loss prior to surgery and now post I am at a 64 pound loss total. I have not been this size in 5 years. I will keep all the advice in mind. My whole goal in this process was to be healthy again and be alive and well spending some much deserved time with my children/fiancee. I look foward to the time I can actually run and play with the kids without getting tired after 3 steps. who knows maybe they will have a hard time keeping up with me. take care all have a great holiday.

I weighed this morning and I am down 50 pounds. I think the more you need to lose the quicker the initial comes off. I've lost 37.3% of my weight to get to 170, but I'm hoping the Dr. will think 150 is attainable. I copied this months ago from Vicki on the main board: My documentation shows that for roux-en-y gastric bypass average weight loss results are 33% of excess weight in the first 3 months, 65% in 12 months, and at least 75% after 18 months. To calculate the percentage of excess weight you have lost so far, subtract your goal weight from your starting weight which results in the total amount of excess weight you want to lose. Divide that into the actual pounds you have lost so far and this will show you the percentage of excess you have lost to date. Multiply by 100 to get the percentage. For example, you started at 294 and are now 218 which equals 76 pounds lost. If your goal weight is 125, subtract that from 294, which equals 169. Divide 76 by 169 and multiply by 100. By my calculations, you have now lost 45 percent of your excess weight in just under 6 months.. Hope that formula helps. Vicki 299/129/-170/at goal 300-150 = 150/51 I hope that helps!
