I am not losing weight anymore
It has been 8 weeks after my surgery and I still have a tube in my old stomach to eat through since I still have a leak in my anastamosis. I am getting it fixed with fibrin glue this thursday by intervention radiaology. I have been eating 1000cc of liquid food everynight and most of my protien daily through my stomach tube. I have lost 60lbs to date but have not lost any weight in the past 10days. I have also not taken a good bowel movement in that time frame. I am wondering if maybe I am not having a bowel movement because I am not taking in enough calories. This happened when I first started with ther liquid food and it took about 6 days before I could go. I feel things gurgeling all through my intestines so I know the plumbing is all good. What do you think is happening???????
Why has the weight loss stopped??????

I'm glad I'm not alone. My weight loss has pretty much come to a halt too. I'm at 59 lbs lost. I have at least one BM daily, so am not sure what is going on. I'm getting so frustrated. Scale moved a couple pounds about a week ago, but that's it. I've been at the same weight loss now for almost 2.5 weeks.
Joel - have you taken milk of magnesia. Even though things are gurgling down there, maybe it needs a little push (no pun intended) to get things moving. The cherry flavor MOM is good and VERY effective.
People have told me that stalls and plateaus even happen to us WLS patients. Still.....it's VERY frustrating especially when we are doing everything right!!!
Hang in there!

Are you able to exercise much Joel? I think that has helped me. I just talked to my surgeon last week at our support group, and he continues to say that calories/protein is not all that important. He says your body will burn the fat for fuel, and until that is used up (a ways off yet for us), your protein or caloric intake isn't that important. He does however state that exercise and water intake are very important. I notice this in my weight loss, when I have a good week exercising, I lose more weight than in weeks that I am too busy to get it in everyday. After a very mild spring here in Texas, it finally got up to around 100 degrees this weekend, and I spent a lot of time outdoors. I was so busy drinking fluids to keep hydrated, I didn't eat hardly anything and I lost 6 pounds since Friday morning. It is hard to know what to do when we seem to get so many different types of advice! I guess it just goes to show we are all different and there is no one magic method that works for us all! Hang in there...a year from now this will all be worth it!

Hi. I have problems with BM sometimes too but it is because I am not drinking enough liquid. I increase my liquid and then eat a salad or fresh veggies and I usually have a BM within a couple of hours of eating. As far as the weight loss goes, I have been going about 10 days or so without the scale moving and then BOOM it will move 5 pounds. It has happened to me twice in the past month, I would not lose anything for 10 days to two weeks and then the scale moves 5 whole pounds. Keep the positive attitude and don't let it get you down. You are doing fine.
Best of luck,

Hi Joel... I am having problems with my BM's also... I go about once a week... I am use to going about 2 to 3 times a day... I have been worried about it also and I drink a ton of liquids and exercise... I truly think that our bodies are using all the vitamins etc... in the food we eat and it doesn't leave much waiste for a BM... That is the only thing that I can come up with... Good luck with everything... I will be praying for you!!
Believe me, I know how frustrating those plateaus are. I had 6 weeks of no loss after losing 15 lbs. in the 2 weeks after surgery. All I can say is try to concentrate more on how you're feeling with less weight and fewer inches. I know that the scale can become my worst enemy and I'm trying not to give it so much power. You are the powerful one, Joel.
Hey Joel, not to echo everyone here, but hang in there. I too (along with it looks like a lot of us) have not have regular BM. Yesterday I had a mindgrain and went twice--who'd of thunk!?
Anyway, I would try MOM--if there's anything stuck, it'll help. I would start off with 1/2 dose however--you don't want to give yourself diaherra and dehydrate yourself either.
As far as the plateu, it happens. It's happening to me right now too. Just hang in there. Your body is going through a lot right now and isn't sure which way is up or down anymore. It will catch up.
Keep drinking and excersing and it will come off.
I"m thinking of ya!
