I know I am supose to wait 30 minutes before I eat so I will have enough room in my pouch for food. So if I've a good balanced meal and want to drink some water after I eat- what's the harm? Gayle

My dietitian told me that liquid will move the food out of your stomach and through your intestines more quickly than they it should. The problem is that you won't absorb the nutrients properly and that can cause big problems. My understanding is that it's actually more harmful to drink after eating than before.

I agree with Donna, my nutritionist said the same thing. If you drink to soon it basically washes out the pouch and can't absorb properly. But on the other hand she said just a small sip to wet your mouth won't hurt. Just be careful and make sure it is a small sip. Hope that helps. Billie

My dietician told me the same thing, no drinking 30 min before or after. In addition to washing food thru the system without time to absorb maximum nutrients, washing food out of the system too soon after eating makes us get hungry again MUCH sooner. I also keep a glass of water nearby and take a small sip if I need one. Good luck to you!

My doctor told me that drinking while you eat or up to 30 min after you eat can push the food through your pouch faster and cause you to eat more and snack or it can make you feel sick... Bonnie
