I am 6 1/2 weeks out and I am trying to find out what others are eating (mainly people 5-12 weeks out). I feel like I may be eating too much or wrong foods...and would love to hear others and what they eat and how much they can tolerate! THANKS!! DK 310/271

right now I eat anything that my stomach can handle. I don't eat anything with sugar in it(real sugar that is). Every thing is sugar free or sugar substitute. Stuff that is low fat or fat free. I eat salads, any kind of meat. I do stay away from anything that does have bleached white flour in it. It doesn't settle well. I do eat alot of Taco Bell. But I don't eat the shells of anything only the insides. Hope this helps you. Eileen 260/214

DK - I'm eight weeks out and am eating mostly tuna and salmon, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese. Only one ounce at a time or it makes my pouch hurt. My surgeon told me two weeks ago that I could add protein bars to help get the total grams protein up to around 50/day. Just make sure they are low in sugar, 6 grams or less. I haven't found any protein shakes that don't give me nausea but I've done ok with the bars. I cut them into small pieces and kinda snack on them through out the afternoon. Every surgeon has different requirements, so if you are unsure, check with the doc. Mine is very specific about the grams of protein and carbs on a daily basis. He is also rather specific about the types of food right now. The next step of the diet will be unrestricted but we are not going to tolerate foods the we did before so it will be trial and error for a while. Good luck with your journey. Toni 267/210

I am 8 1/2 weeks out. I am, as I type, eating a healthy choice meal for lunch. Actually, a third of one. I stay away from the meals with the desserts because I can't have it. I found one with Garlic herb chicken (cut into cubes), potato wedges and vegetables that I love! The meat is very tender and easy to eat. I also eat a lot of refied beans with cheese sprinkled on top (yum!), sugar free yogurt with a few sprinkles of Kashi high protein cereal and very soft-cooked eggs with pace salsa. I can only tolerate about 3-4 table spoons of food at one time. This is up considerably from even two weeks ago when I could only stomach 2 tablespoons at a time. It is a lot of fun to hear what others eat! I wish you the best as you continue to heal up! Elena

You had your surgery on my birthday! (I was released from the hospital that day, too) I am eating tuna, canned chicken, low-fat pnutbutter and fat free crackers, carb control yogurt, cottage cheese, refried beans and unjury protein shakes. I also go to the "vegan" section in the store and found boca burgers-I can eat about half of one with some salsa on it, some low fat, low sugar veggie burritos, etc. Just be careful to check the fat and sugars in those type of frozen foods. Congrats on your weight loss too! Becky R 254/210/154

I'm afraid I haven't been doing that well. I had my surgery on 3/30 and still am having lots of problems with solid food. I love chicken, but can rarely eat it without It gets very frustruating. For the most part I am eating some High Protein Sugar Free Pudding and Power crunch protein bars. Other than sugar free popsicles or cheese that's about all I'm able to keep down. Everytime I try solid food, I get problems.

Hi Suzy Q, I am having the same trouble you are with food. I can do the protein shakes and the protein crunch bars, cup of soup, puddings, and whipped potatoes. Everytime I try to eat what ever I fix for my hubby I get sick. Don't seem to tolerate meat well at all. I get the foamies which really should be called the slime and Called the doc about it today and talked with the nutritionist and she said not to worry about it, just stay with the soft food until I can tolerate the solids better. I am losing slower than alot of people on this board too and have to wonder if part of it is my age. Am exercising tho and feel pretty good. Am particularly tired this week as it is my first week back to work.

Hi. I had my surgery on 3/1/05 and I am eating pretty much anything I want that is SF. You have to try what you want and see if it works, if it does not work now, try it again in a few weeks. I too, have to stay away from breads, I immediately if I eat bread. I also can not eat any type of meat that is leftover from the night before rewarmed. It makes me sick. I have eaten steak, taco salad, chicken, turkey leg, tuna. I still have some trouble with dairy products if I eat them in the morning. Also be sure that you chew chew chew, that is the key to keeping it down. If you do not chew your food enough, it will come back up. I have had no problems with salad, beans, potatoes, pasta. Just do not overeat or it will come back up. Happy eating!! Rhonda

It is so good to hear about someone that feels as I do. I had my surgery on 3/30 and I eat most anything I want except bread. I have even popped a few jelly beans and felt fine. That scares me. For some reason, in the past few days, I have been wanting to snack and I am thinking about food too much. My stomach doesn't seem to handle dairy very well unless it is cheese. If I heat up a healthy choice meal, I eat as much protein as possible, and usually toss all of the extras. I eat about 1/2 or so at a time.
