Dumping
Could it be that I will be able to avoid the dreaded dumping syndrome? I drank a juice drink by mistake on Wed., and it didn't make me sick. I had no reaction to it at all. I thought it was pure juice, but halfway through the bottle, I read the label- corn syrup and sugar were numbers 2 and 3 on the list, it had 53 g. of sugars. I threw the rest of it out, but I think if anything was going to make me throw up, that should have been it. Do you think I dodged a bullet? And, advice to everyone- READ the LABEL! The bad thing is that I wonder what other sugar I can eat. I was kind of happy knowing that if I ate anything sweet, I would be sick. Sweets are my weakness. Now I am not sure, and it is back to- willpower. Actually, I can resist most anything right now, but later on, I worry.
I know how you're feeling. I've had no dumping, vomitting, diahhrea, cramps, gas, or anything like that. I feel blessed, but I do worry about the future too. I guess we'll just have to take one day at a time. I think we'll do fine. I had sugar by accident too. I had to take a liquid medicine. I suppose it's usually little kids who take it, so it was a super saturated solution of sugar. I mean, it was crunchy with sugar. After my first spoonful, I panicked thinking I would be sick. Nada.
I am in the same position as you and Donna. I too had to take some liquid medicine that the pharmacist had suspended in a sugar loaded syrup. Nothing happened. I am kind of disappointed by that, too. Glad to see I am not completely crazy. I have had gas and bloating, cramps once or twice-anything with ground beef in it is kinda not agreeing with my pouch. At this point tho (6 weeks out), I am 40 lbs down and just telling myself that dumping can start at any time-so don't risk it. I have been terrified of going thru a full fledged dump.
Good Luck and have a great weekend!
Becky
I'd sure treat it as a "don't press your luck" situation. I have not dumped, but I have found if I eat a protein bar too quickly (loaded with maltitol, a sugar substitute) I will get nauseous for an hour or so. If I eat it slowly (a bite every 15 minutes), I'm fine.
Remember, the dumping syndrome was "installed" on purpose as a negative reinforcement, rather than something to circumvent.
I don't even want to think about dumping, no matter if I can eat something or not. I just avoid the issue completely.
I would say
#1 Count your lucky stars....getting sick is not fun for anyone.
and
#2 YES--READ THE LABEL LOL.
You know I see this as each person being different as far as sugar content goes. I have found that I can tolerate sugar {up to a certain point of course}. Yes you have to be aware of what you are eating and be carefull of that dreadfull dumping syndrom. But also remember that taking in that much sugar is gonna keep those pounds from coming off I would think.
Please be care full in your intake of sugar and good luck to you!
Becky
60 pounds gone foreva!!
I haven't had any dumping either, but just the smell of really sweet stuff, ie: syrup, just almost makes me spew. So I guess I'm lucky in that sense, although I do use Splenda in some things. I think the most important thing for all of us to remember in the future is stay sugar-free, or at least make sure that sugar is very rare. The worst part for me was breaking the sugar habit and I have no intention of allowing it to ever be a habit again.
Luv 2 all,
Billie
