Opinion of food
Hi. I recently discovered I can eat a whole (single serving) package of frozen stouffers lasagna. Fitday.com says it has 50ish grams of protein but I'm pretty sure it was more like 25g. My questions are: "Should I be able to eat that much?" and "Is this a good choice to eat?" (I love it and I'm not really eating anything else!) I'm drinking about 50 oz of water a day. Had surgery 3/14 and have lost 35 pounds without exercising (which I started doing a bit this week). Any thoughts?
Hello,
I had surgery a week after you on 3/23 and my dietician just told me no pasta or rice for 3 months, because of the residue that it leaves on your pouch and can cause ulcers. Also, can't have red meat for at least 6 months. I know every program is different, but I wouldn't want to get ulcers.

Our bodies can only absorb 30g of protein at a time (per hour or so). So eating more than that is just "wasted" calories/nutrition. A frozen lasagna is usually 8 oz (1 cup). You should only be eating 1/2 that amount per meal. Eating more than that can stretch out your pouch over time, and that's the LAST thing you want to happen.
You should not be concentrating most of your food intake on processed, pre-packaged meals. Those are not good for you. You should be eating unprocessed, pure, wholesome foods listed in your nutrition guide you got from hospital/surgeon/bariatric program.
Priority #1 - PROTEIN
Priority #2 - veggies
Priority #3 - fruit
Hope this helps!! Congrats on 35 lbs!! That's awesome! You'll find you'll lose more when you eat unprocessed foods.

Hi there,
In my opinion I would try and eat the least amount of carbs as possible. I have eaten about 2 Tbl of potatoe with no problems but I know they're not good for me. I refuse to eat rice/pasta because I was told by my nutritionist that it swells in your pouch and therefore you get less protein and more carb. Something to think about. Also, I agree with everyone else that at this rate you will eventually stretch out your pouch and possibly start regaining weight again and I know you don't want that. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best.
